Company Description
Depop is a peer-to-peer circular fashion marketplace where anyone can buy, sell and discover secondhand fashion. Our mission is simple: to make fashion circular by making secondhand as exciting and rewarding as buying new.
Founded in 2011, Depop’s diverse community has helped move resale into the mainstream, where buying secondhand is no longer an alternative, but how people of different ages now engage with fashion. Today, more than 56 million registered users come to Depop to find great value, express their own personal style and give clothes a longer life. We believe that everything you want already exists, and our role is to help people discover it.
Powered by a team of over 500 people, our company is headquartered in London, with offices in New York. In 2021, Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy - the global marketplace for unique and creative goods - and continues to operate as a standalone company. The Team
The Strategy team drives Depop’s growth by answering critical questions and identifying, shaping and delivering its highest-impact opportunities. We operate at the centre of the business, partnering closely with the Executive team and senior leaders across Product, Marketing, Finance and other functions to set direction and solve complex, ambiguous problems.
The team’s scope spans three key pillars :
- Strategic Planning - Shaping Depop’s strategic vision, growth strategy and priorities across quarterly, annual and long-term horizons. This includes aligning senior stakeholders towards a clear direction and helping the Executive Team make decisive trade-offs in service of focusing on what’s most important.
- Strategic Initiatives - Leading high-impact, cross-functional initiatives, typically ambiguous or early-stage problems of critical importance to the business, through to a clear direction and handover to execution teams.
- Strategic Articulation - Translating strategy, performance and key decisions into clear, compelling narratives for different audiences, including the Executive Team, Management Team, whole company and for eBay.
The Strategy Team sits alongside the Insights Team and the Internal Operations Team, together forming the ISO Org (Insights, Strategy and Operations) led by the COO. This org is the nucleus of the company and the right hand partner to senior leaders: helping Depop to make more informed decisions, driving cross-functional thinking and turning ideas more effectively into reality.
The Role
The Senior Strategy Director is responsible for leading the Strategy Team, partnering with the CEO to shape Depop’s overarching company strategy. You'll ensure the organisation is aligned behind its most important priorities, while building the teams impact across the organisation, deploying the team against the highest-value business questions and creating clarity and momentum in complex, ambiguous areas.
You will act as a trusted strategic partner to the Executive team, bringing a company-wide perspective to the company’s biggest opportunities, challenges and trade-offs. You will lead the development of Depop’s long-term strategy and company planning, ensuring strategic choices are grounded in strong commercial insight and translated into clear priorities and action.
A critical part of the role will be influencing across organisational boundaries - connecting the dots across functions, staying abreast of the most important industry insights, challenging thinking constructively and ensuring the Executive team has the strategic clarity required to make high-quality decisions.
You will also be a key partner to our new parent company, eBay, working alongside the eBay Strategy Team & senior eBay leaders to build our combined strategic direction.
What You'll Be Doing

- Connect strategy across Product, Marketing, Finance and other functions, ensuring functional strategies collectively support Depop’s overall direction
- Drive alignment and influence across senior leadership, navigating competing priorities and enabling effective decision-making
- Lead strategic articulation for Executive Team, eBay and company-wide audiences, turning complex topics into clear and compelling narratives
- Strengthen Depop’s strategic operating model, including planning, decision-making, operating rhythms and cross-functional ways of working
- Lead and develop a high-performing Strategy team, creating clear ownership and deploying capability against the company’s highest-value opportunities
- Partner with eBay to build a cohesive high-impact combined strategy

- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, combining data, commercial judgement and strategic thinking
