Description

Scale Computing builds edge computing, virtualization, and hyperconverged infrastructure that keeps critical applications running wherever our customers operate, from data centers to thousands of remote sites. We make IT simpler, more resilient, and easier to manage at scale, and we hold ourselves to the same standard internally.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior Systems Administrator to own the reliability, security, and performance of the infrastructure our teams depend on every day. You'll manage our server, virtualization, identity, and cloud environments, lead infrastructure projects end to end, and serve as the top escalation point for complex systems issues. This role reports to the VP of Platform Infrastructure and partners closely with IT, Security, Engineering, and Support.

What you'll do

  • Administer, patch, and maintain Windows and Linux servers across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud environments
  • Manage virtualization and hyperconverged infrastructure, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and lifecycle upgrades
  • Own identity and access management (Active Directory, Entra ID/Azure AD, SSO, MFA) and enforce least-privilege practices
  • Design and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans, and test them on a regular schedule
  • Monitor system health and respond to incidents, leading root-cause analysis and preventing repeat issues
  • Automate repetitive tasks and configuration using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Partner with Security on vulnerability remediation, hardening, audit evidence, and compliance requirements
  • Lead infrastructure projects such as migrations, platform upgrades, and new tool rollouts from scoping through delivery
  • Maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and network and system diagrams
  • Mentor junior administrators and serve as the senior escalation point for the IT team
  • Participate in a shared on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance windows

Requirements

  • 7+ years of systems administration experience, including at least 3 in a senior or lead role
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Windows Server and Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, or similar)
  • Strong experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or hyperconverged solutions)
  • Solid working knowledge of Active Directory, Entra ID/Azure AD, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
  • Experience administering at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation with PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPN, and load balancing
  • Proven experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical colleagues
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience

Equal opportunity

Scale Computing is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
