  • ABOUT THE ROLEAs Senior Systems Engineer – Electric Propulsion, your mission is to ensure that the electric propulsion system is fit for its intended purpose, enabling aircraft-level performance, safety, and certifiability throughout the aircraft lifecycle. With deep expertise in electric propulsion, you connect system requirements, system design, supplier deliverables, and verification into a consistent technical baseline. You drive technical trade-offs, resolve complex system issues, and ensure that interfaces, operating modes, and constraints remain aligned with the aircraft’s concept of operation and neighbouring systems.Working closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and safety and certification specialists, you ensure that the propulsion system is ready for integration, ground and flight testing, and entry into service. You provide clear technical recommendations and evidence to support informed decisions at system and aircraft level.
  • WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Own a complete, consistent, and traceable requirements baseline for the electric propulsion system, translating aircraft, safety, certification, and programme needs into system and equipment requirements.
  • Define and maintain the system architecture, interfaces, operating modes, and constraints, including the interaction of electric motors, inverters, and propulsion controls
  • Drive system-level trade studies and recommend architecture and design solutions, making assumptions, technical risks, and open issues transparent and resolving or escalating them with a clear assessment of their impact.
  • Define validation and verification strategies and coordinate evidence closure across system, subsystem, and equipment levels, ensuring coverage of all allocated requirements and readiness for certification milestones.
  • Lead technical discussions with suppliers and engineering partners, aligning requirements, interfaces, deliverables, and acceptance criteria against a shared technical baseline.
  • Assess the impact of proposed design changes on requirements, interfaces, verification, safety, certification, and configuration, coordinating the assessment with affected stakeholders before implementation.
  • Prepare system engineering deliverables for technical reviews, integration, ground and flight testing, and service readiness gates, providing clear status, evidence, deviations, and residual risk assessments.
  • WHAT YOU BRING
  • An engineering degree or equivalent qualification in aerospace, electrical, systems, control engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive systems engineering experience with complex technical products.
  • Deep technical understanding of electric propulsion systems, including electric motors, inverters, propulsion controls, and their electrical, thermal, and mechanical integration.
  • Experience in aviation or a comparably regulated industry, such as space, automotive, or defence.
  • A strong command of requirements engineering, traceability, technical baseline management, and the assessment of design changes.
  • The ability to lead technical discussions across disciplines and with suppliers, evaluate competing solutions, and turn complex issues into well-supported recommendations.
  • Strong analytical judgement and self-management, with a proactive approach to technical risk, issue resolution, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Professional working English for technical documentation and stakeholder communication.
  • WHAT WE OFFER
  • Full-scale aerospace engineering, not concept slides
  • A 60+ engineer team at Ottobrunn
  • Real ownership and flat hierarchies: a modern startup culture where your input shapes decisions, not just execution
  • Flexible working hours, remote work, and competitive compensation
  • Health & wellbeing: EGYM Wellpass membership and subsidized lunch in our canteen
  • Office extras: espresso coffee, fresh fruit, and soft drinks, plus regular team and company events, and plenty more once you're on board
