Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

Ursa Major’s teams move fast and do a lot with little. We are looking for a skilled, fast-learning individual who will serve as a central member of the team and take immediate ownership of systems engineering for spacecraft propulsion. This role will be part of the technical organization, responsible for requirements development, verification, and validation for a variety of propulsion hardware, as well as system architecture and failure mode analysis. Candidates will be expected to have ownership from the initial concept phase to a production-ready design.

Responsibilities:

Support responsible engineers of all In-Space components and systems in defining, verifying, and maintaining requirements – it’ll be your responsibility to make sure we have the right set of requirements and that we’re on track to meet them with confidence through product development and qualification

Create and manage system engineering tools and processes

Coordinate with analysis team on planning and execution of verification activities to ensure requirement coverage and compliance

Coordinate with test and analysis teams on planning and execution of verification activities to ensure compliance to requirements

Support planning and execution of acceptance and qualification test campaigns to ensure requirement coverage and compliance

Contribute to and participate in program reviews and design reviews throughout the program lifecycles

Support reliability, failure modes, and risk assessments for major programs

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Systems Engineering associates to advance their proficiency

Primary engineering point of contact with mission assurance group in identification and resolution of risks and opportunities

Work along side system designers to ensure compliance to range safety requirements in SSCMAN 91-710, and other industry standards and specifications

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in aerospace system design, project management or related system-level roles

B.S. in Aerospace, Systems or Mechanical Engineering (or other related technical subject area)

Experience applying aerospace systems engineering processes – design reviews, requirements verification and validation, failure and risk assessments

Demonstrated organization skills

Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity in all its forms as well as contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationship

Desired Experience:

Experience with multiple systems engineering organizations and multiple product lifecycles – seen what works vs. what could be improved

Fluid system analysis, component selection, and supplier management experience

Spacecraft chemical propulsion system design, development or test

Familiarity with industry standard requirements documents such as MIL-STD-1522, RTCA/DO-178, MIL-STD-810, SSCMAN 91-710, AIAA-S080, SMC-S-016, etc...

Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS or JAMA

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $133,000 - $166,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
