Available Location: Milton, GA
Hybrid Working: Team members are expected to come into the Alpharetta office as needed, based on business requirements and team collaboration needs. There is no fixed minimum number of in-office days; instead, attendance will be determined by project demands, meetings, and manager guidance. Any changes to your primary work location should follow the appropriate process as outlined in our handbook.
What You'll Do:
As the Senior Vice President, Software Engineering , you will be a key member of Ministry Brands' technology leadership team, responsible for the strategy, execution, and organizational effectiveness of our software engineering organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you will lead multiple engineering teams and leaders responsible for building, enhancing, and operating products that serve thousands of churches and ministries.
You will help shape the future of our technology platforms, architecture, engineering practices, and development organization. You will balance technical excellence with business outcomes, ensuring our teams can innovate quickly while delivering secure, reliable, scalable, and high-quality software to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Strategy & Leadership
- Provide strategic direction and executive leadership for the software engineering organization, aligning engineering strategy with company objectives, product strategy, and customer needs.
- Partner with the CTO and executive leadership to define and execute the company's technology strategy and long-term engineering roadmap.
- Establish a global engineering operating model that enables high-performing teams to move quickly, collaborate effectively, and deliver predictable results.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
Execution & Delivery
- Oversee the successful delivery of software initiatives from conception through deployment, ensuring appropriate quality, scope, budget, and timeline management.
- Evolve the SDLC for AI-led development, enabling teams to increase speed and productivity while maintaining code quality, security, and reliability.
- Establish clear engineering goals, performance metrics, and operating rhythms that improve delivery predictability and organizational performance.
- Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Customer Success, and other business leaders to establish priorities and deliver against product roadmaps.
- Ensure engineering teams remain focused on the highest-value initiatives and effectively balance new development, maintenance, modernization, and technical debt.
Architecture & Technology
- Provide leadership and oversight for software architecture and technical strategy across Ministry Brands' products and platforms.
- Lead the development of a unified data model and data architecture that brings together disparate product and customer data, enabling AI-powered experiences, intelligent automation, and scalable analytics across the platform.
- Champion architectural principles including modularity, reusability, scalability, interoperability, maintainability, and security.
- Develop and execute strategies for modernizing legacy platforms and reducing technical debt while maintaining business continuity.
- Identify opportunities to responsibly leverage AI and other emerging technologies to improve engineering productivity and product capabilities.
Engineering Excellence
- Establish and continuously improve engineering standards, development methodologies, coding practices, testing strategies, and deployment processes.
- Drive adoption of modern software development and DevOps practices that enable teams to deliver high-quality software safely and efficiently.
- Establish appropriate measures for software quality, reliability, security, engineering productivity, and delivery performance.
- Promote automation and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
- Ensure engineering practices support highly available, secure, scalable, and maintainable products.
Talent & Organization
- Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization through effective leadership, talent acquisition, retention, coaching, and succession planning.
- Establish clear career paths and development opportunities for engineers, managers, and engineering leaders.
- Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering leaders and create a strong leadership pipeline for the organization.
- Establish performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous learning.
- Effectively lead and integrate global engineering teams and external development partners.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage engineering operations, including organizational planning, budgeting, resource allocation, forecasting, and reporting.
- Optimize the mix of internal engineering resources, global teams, contractors, and technology partners to deliver the greatest business value.
- Ensure engineering investments are aligned with company priorities and deliver measurable business and customer outcomes.
- Establish effective governance and decision-making processes for major technical and engineering investments.
Customer & Market Focus
- Ensure engineering decisions are grounded in customer needs, market dynamics, and the evolving needs of churches and ministries.
- Partner with Product and other business leaders to translate customer and market insights into technology and product opportunities.
- Help ensure Ministry Brands' technology remains modern, competitive, and capable of supporting the evolving needs of the faith market.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience leading software engineering organizations, including significant experience managing managers and senior engineering leaders.
- Proven experience leading engineering organizations through periods of growth, transformation, modernization, or organizational change.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute technology and engineering strategies that support business objectives.
- Passionate about developing people and building an inclusive, accountable, and high-performing engineering culture.
- Passion for using technology to help churches and non-profits more effectively accomplish their mission.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI, SaaS, subscription software, or multi-product technology organizations.
- Experience in the church, nonprofit, or faith-based technology market is a plus.
Physical Considerations:
- Ability to work in a general office environment
- Ability to handle extended periods of computer-based work, including telephone
- Ability to work flexible and long hours, as needed, including outside regular business hours and days
Travel Considerations:
Domestic and/or international travel required, estimated up to 30%
