Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Loads & Dynamics Engineer to join our team. This position will be located at Roy, UT to support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below.

What You'll Get To Do:

As part of the Sentinel AVE Loads & Dynamics team, you will apply your technical expertise and analytical skills to predict shock and vibration environments, perform random vibration and shock analyses, and support comprehensive test planning, execution, and data evaluation. You will also perform loads and structural dynamics analyses, including rigid body analysis and coupled loads analysis (CLA). This role is well-suited for a forward-thinking engineer who is eager to tackle complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions that advance the structural dynamics capabilities of the Sentinel Program.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications

This position may be filled at a Principal Engineer level (T3) or at a Sr. Principal Engineer level(T4)

Principal Engineer: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 1 Year with PhD

Knowledge and/or experience with structural dynamics analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, and/or missiles

Demonstrated ability to solve dynamic analysis (vibration, shock, acoustics) problems using analytical methods (e.g., hand calculations, in-house tools, and commercial analysis tools)

Experience planning and executing vibration, acoustic, modal, and shock tests for aerospace flight hardware, including test definition, coordination, and post-test data reduction

Experience with modal and transient dynamic analysis in Nastran (or equivalent finite element analysis tool)

Experience with random vibration, shock, and vibroacoustic analysis for launch vehicles and/or spacecrafts

Experience performing time-domain, frequency-domain, and random vibration analysis for aerospace structures

Experience in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis, and data manipulation

Experience running Coupled Loads Analysis (CLA) and/or multi-body dynamics simulations

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g., systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, and test) in a highly integrated team environment

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical results to diverse audiences

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

Sr. Principal Engineer: 8 Years with Bachelors in Science; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD

Knowledge and/or experience with structural dynamics analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, and/or missiles

Demonstrated ability to solve dynamic analysis (vibration, shock, acoustics) problems using analytical methods (e.g., hand calculations, in-house tools, and commercial analysis tools)

Preferred Qualifications

• •Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM discipline from an accredited institution
• •Experience working strategic and/or tactical missile programs (e.g., ICBM, cruise missiles, hypersonic systems)
• •Experience with dynamic (modal) testing and correlation of structural finite element models to test results
• •Experience with vibroacoustic and/or statistical energy analysis (SEA) tools such as Wave6 or VA One
• •Experience with modern finite element substructuring and component mode synthesis methods (e.g., Craig–Bampton) for large-scale models
• •Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments, including setup and execution of large-scale analyses and management of large datasets
• •Experience with additional scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python) for analysis automation, pre/post-processing, and data visualization
• •Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex structural dynamics and loads results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• •Active DoD Secret Clearance (or higher), or the ability to obtain and maintain one

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
