Services Technical Director

Position Overview

The Services Technical Director will provide technical and commercial leadership within the Services Commercial organization, leading a team of Technical Leaders responsible for supporting the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) process and delivering technical solutions across the North American Onshore Wind Services portfolio.

The Technical Director will lead the technical organization supporting performance, reliability, conversion, modification, upgrade, Repower and other Services opportunities. This role will ensure the Technical Leaders provide high-quality technical solutions, customer engagement, risk assessment, and commercial support throughout the opportunity lifecycle.

The role will serve as the senior technical interface between Commercial, Engineering, Product Management, Services, Operations, and customers. The Technical Director will establish technical priorities, develop team capability, ensure consistent technical governance, and influence commercial strategies that maximize customer value and business results.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of Technical Leaders supporting the Services Commercial organization.
  • Establish team priorities, performance expectations, resource plans, and accountability aligned with Commercial and Services objectives.
  • Develop technical talent through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and career development.
  • Build a high-performing team capable of supporting complex customer opportunities and strategic Services initiatives.
  • Establish consistent technical processes, standards, and best practices across the Technical Leader organization.
  • Balance technical resources and priorities across the Services sales pipeline and customer requirements.

Commercial & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership throughout the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) process for Services opportunities, ensuring solutions are technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with customer requirements.
  • Partner with Commercial Leaders to develop winning strategies for complex customer opportunities, RFQs, tenders, and strategic bids.
  • Lead technical assessment of customer requirements, scope of supply, solution configuration, technical risk, and project suitability.
  • Ensure the Technical Leader team provides clear technical recommendations, assumptions, risks, and value propositions to support commercial decision-making.
  • Translate complex technical matters into clear commercial, financial, and customer outcomes.
  • Support commercial negotiations and customer approvals where senior technical leadership is required.
  • Provide technical input into business cases, pricing strategies, financial models, and deal reviews.

Customer & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Serve as a senior technical representative with strategic customers, owners, operators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Participate in executive-level customer meetings and technical/commercial negotiations.
  • Build trusted customer relationships by understanding fleet performance, reliability, operational, and lifecycle priorities.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues impacting commercial opportunities or customer commitments.
  • Influence internal stakeholders across Engineering, Product Management, Services, Supply Chain, Operations, and other functions to resolve customer and commercial requirements.

Technical Strategy & Governance

  • Establish the technical strategy and priorities for the Services Commercial organization.
  • Provide technical governance for performance, reliability, software, hardware, controls, environmental, and other Services solutions.
  • Ensure appropriate technical due diligence, performance analysis, configuration management, and risk assessment are completed for complex opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve standardization, solution quality, execution efficiency, and customer value.
  • Provide technical market intelligence and customer feedback to influence Services and Product roadmaps.
  • Identify emerging technologies and industry trends that may create new Services opportunities or competitive advantages.

Business & Performance Management

  • Support Services Commercial leadership in achieving revenue, margin, orders, backlog, and customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Establish and monitor team metrics related to technical quality, responsiveness, opportunity support, and execution.
  • Ensure technical resources are aligned with business priorities and the highest-value opportunities.
  • Identify and manage technical, commercial, and execution risks across the Services pipeline.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the technical-commercial interface and ITO process.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical, Business, Environmental, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in the wind energy industry, with significant experience in Services, Engineering, Commercial, or related technical functions.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams or complex technical programs within the North American wind industry.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting performance upgrades, reliability initiatives, modifications, conversions, or other Services solutions through the ITO process.
  • Strong understanding of wind turbine technology, performance, controls, reliability, and wind farm operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical professionals while operating effectively within a matrixed commercial organization.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team of Technical Leaders and build a high-performing technical organization.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the ITO process, including opportunity qualification, technical solution development, risk assessment, pricing, negotiation, and customer approval.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the GE Vernova Onshore Wind portfolio and Services offerings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in turbine performance, technical due diligence, reliability, controls, and wind farm technologies.
  • Strong customer-facing and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into commercial strategies and compelling customer value propositions.
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder-management skills across Commercial, Engineering, Product, Services, and Operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including understanding of margins, business cases, and lifecycle economics.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies, prioritize resources, and drive execution through a team.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
