Summary

You will serve as a SHIPWRIGHT in the PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The location for this position is Garden Island, Australia ***See Additional Information section below for details***

Duties

  • You will lay out, build and repair support structures for ships in dry docks.
  • You will establish reference points above water level for aligning ship over blocks when it enters drydocks.
  • You will lay out, erects and modifies staging for ship work.
  • You will select the proper materials for shipwright jobs and substitute materials when necessary.
  • You will make calculations using standard arithmetic and geometry, using measuring and marking instruments, such as levels, rules, squares, T-bevels and awls.
  • You will operate standard machine tools, power equipment and other hand tools utilized in the shipwright trade.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Laying out, building, and repairing support structures for ships in dry docks Building and installing heavy wood structures for support of marine equipment Producing calculations using standard arithmetic and geometry using measuring and marking instruments to carry out job orders Operating standard machine tools, power equipment and other hand tools utilized in the shipwright trade Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Additional Information: ICTAP Applicants: To be considered well-qualified and exercise selection priority as an ICTAP candidate, displaced Federal employees must satisfy all qualification requirements for the position and receive a rating in the highly qualified category (score 85) or higher.
