Description

Ryan Lawn & Tree is one of the most respected names in lawn and tree care: a $100M+ company with room to grow across Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa and Nebraska. We’re on a mission to raise the bar for our industry, and that starts with hiring great people, treating them right, and giving them the chance to grow with us.

  • Keep the Equipment Running and the Customers Happy
  • If you’re the person friends call when their mower won’t start, this is your chance to turn that skill into a career. As a Small Engine Mechanic I at our Maisch Small Engine shop, you’ll maintain, diagnose, and repair outdoor power equipment like mowers, trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws. You’ll learn alongside experienced technicians, follow proven procedures, and build your skills with a clear path to grow with us.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, air filter and spark plug replacements, and blade sharpening
  • Diagnose common mechanical issues and complete repairs accurately and on time
  • Document diagnostic findings, parts, labor, and equipment condition on service orders
  • Assist senior technicians with more complex repairs and overhauls
  • Work with the Service Writer to keep customers informed and make sure all work is approved before it begins
  • Keep your work area clean, organized, and safe, and follow all PPE and safety requirements

Requirements

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience working on small engines, whether personal or professional
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Comfort using a computer or tablet to document repairs and look up parts
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Trade school coursework in small engine repair, shop experience, or familiarity with brands like STIHL, Husqvarna, Honda, and Briggs & Stratton is a plus

** SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION: This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the operation of vehicles and equipment. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana), criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical (where applicable) before starting employment. Candidates must meet all screening requirements as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Frequent standing, bending, and kneeling throughout the workday
  • Manual dexterity to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to work with exposure to engine fumes, fluids, and outdoor elements, with appropriate PPE

We hire great people for our employee-owned company. As a member of our team, you’ll become a partner in the highest-quality lawn and tree company in the Midwest.

Why work at Ryan?

In addition to being a non-smoking, EEOC-compliant company with real advancement opportunities, we offer:

  • Full-time, year-round employment
  • Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 100% Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • 401(k) with company match
