the posting

We're the India Grocery and Everyday Essentials team, building ground-up supply chain systems in India for Amazon's worldwide quick commerce business. We're developing the systems that power this fast-growing space, including demand forecasting, buying, and inter-store transfers, built ground-up on multiple backend services. Our systems span the entire quick commerce journey, from inventory availability and placement to enabling the ordering and delivery promise.

For this greenfield initiative, you'll work alongside a talented, collaborative team of Sr. SDEs, Sr. FEEs, and PEs. It's a great opportunity to learn, grow, and build industry-leading supply chain systems from scratch.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • You solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
  • You work with your team to invent, design, and build software that is stable and performant.
  • You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when each is appropriate (and when it is not). Your solutions are pragmatic.
  • You consider the legacy of the code you produce and write code that an SDE unfamiliar with the system can understand.
  • You limit short-term workarounds. You do things with the proper level of complexity the first time (or at least minimize incidental complexity).
  • You create flexible software without over-engineering. You make appropriate trade-offs, re-use where possible, and are judicious about introducing dependencies.
  • You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU).
  • You work on project ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers.
  • About the team
  • We're a fast-paced, focused team of passionate and ambitious Amazonians who strive to build industry-leading products while collaborating closely and having fun. Made up of multiple Sr. SDEs, we're working on first-of-their-kind Amazon initiatives that will scale beyond India and grocery. The team follows a flexible, collaborative culture with ample mentoring and guidance from PEs. We value high ownership, bias for action, and insist on the highest standards, following a build-fast, iterate-fast methodology. It's a great fit for passionate engineers who are equally interested in contributing to the business and product roadmap.

Basic qualifications

  • - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • - Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred qualifications

  • - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
