Do you want to shape how people stay connected across calls, text, and email? Alexa Connections is building a trusted communication agent that understands intent, context, and relationships, then acts on a customer's behalf to make every interaction feel natural. As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you'll design and deliver the software systems behind a context-aware assistant that grows more helpful over time. You'll work across the full software development lifecycle — from understanding customer problems, through system design and implementation, to deployment and operations — building privacy-first solutions that serve tens of millions of daily communication events.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • - Design and implement software services that model each customer's personal connections graph, a privacy-first representation of relationships and communication patterns used to power context-aware assistance.
  • - Build and operate scalable backend systems that integrate large language models and agentic reasoning to anticipate who, when, and how a customer wants to connect across calls, text, and email.
  • - Collaborate with scientists, product managers, and peer engineering teams to translate research advances in personalization and memory into reliable, production-grade features.
  • - Contribute to the full software development lifecycle — scoping, design, code review, testing, deployment, and operational support — while coaching teammates through constructive code reviews and documentation.
  • - Identify and resolve root causes of operational issues, and continuously improve system reliability, maintainability, and performance.
  • A day in the life
  • Your morning might start with a design review for a new personalization feature, working through tradeoffs in scalability and data privacy with senior engineers and applied scientists. After lunch you could be writing and testing code for a service that ranks a customer's most relevant contacts, then pairing with a teammate on a code review. You'll regularly join standups with product managers and scientists to align on priorities, and you'll rotate through on-call responsibilities to keep the systems you build running smoothly.
  • About the team
  • The Alexa Connections team is growing, so you'll join early and help shape its engineering culture from the ground up. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and scientists who are invested in your growth, with mentorship and the chance to own meaningful problems. Our mission is to make communication effortless and trustworthy for customers worldwide, and we're focused on building intelligent, privacy-first systems that redefine how people stay in touch.
