Do you want to help millions of customers in Latin America get fair, simple and transparent credit? Amazon's 1P Lending team is looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead engineering for our lending products in Brazil and Mexico.

You will be the senior-most engineering leader for the team in São Paulo. You'll lead a team of Software Development Engineers that designs, builds and runs the systems behind Amazon's own lending offerings. These systems cover customer onboarding, credit decisioning, loan servicing, repayments, and integration with local partners and regulators.

This role sits where technology, financial products and regulation meet, in two of Latin America's largest and fastest-growing markets. You will work closely with Product, Risk, Finance, Legal and Compliance in Brazil and Mexico, and with engineering teams in India. Together you'll launch new products, grow into new markets and raise the technical bar for lending at Amazon.

We're looking for a hands-on technical leader with high ownership. You should be able to deep-dive into architecture and production issues, grow engineers' careers, and build a strong engineering culture at a growing site.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • Lead and grow the team: Hire, manage, coach and develop a team of SDEs in São Paulo. Set a high bar for engineering quality, operational excellence and Amazon's Leadership Principles.
  • Own delivery from start to finish: Take lending products and features from idea through design, build, launch and ongoing improvement, for both Brazil and Mexico.
  • Drive technical direction: Partner with senior engineers on architecture, system design and technical roadmaps. Build systems that are scalable, secure and auditable to meet financial-services standards.
  • Work across geographies: Work closely with engineering teams in India and partner teams in Brazil and Mexico. Align roadmaps, dependencies and launches across time zones.
  • Turn business needs into technology: Work with Product, Risk, Credit, Finance, Legal and Compliance to turn customer needs and local regulations into clear technical plans and delivery commitments.
  • Keep the systems reliable: Own the availability, latency, security and compliance of critical financial systems. Lead root-cause analysis and make lasting fixes.
  • Plan the work: Set yearly and quarterly plans for the team, prioritize competing demands, and balance new features against technical debt and operational health.
  • A day in the life
  • On a given day you might:
  • Review a design doc for a new credit-decisioning service with your senior engineers.
  • Sync with your counterparts in India on a shared launch.
  • Work with Risk and Legal on new regulatory requirements in Brazil or Mexico.
  • Hold a career-growth 1:1 with an engineer.
  • Dig into a production issue affecting customers' loan repayments.
  • You'll split your time between people leadership, technical guidance and working with business partners.

Basic qualifications

  • - Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
