Join CoolIT, an Ecolab Company, a global leader in Direct Liquid Cooling technology for data centers, supercomputers, and high-performance computing environments.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to help modernize factory operations through software, connected systems, and reliable data. You will build and improve applications that support production lines, operations teams, and engineers while connecting business and manufacturing systems with factory equipment, sensors, and other connected devices.
Working closely with the Software Engineering Manager and business teams, you will take ownership of assigned systems from requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. Your work will reduce manual effort, improve data accuracy and visibility, and provide practical tools that help teams operate and improve factory processes.
This role is well suited to someone with strong programming skills, practical judgment, and clear communication. You should be comfortable contributing ideas, evaluating different approaches, and learning unfamiliar systems. You do not need experience with every tool we use.
What’s in it For You
- Day 1 Coverage : Employer-paid comprehensive benefits, including dental, prescription drug, vision, paramedical coverage, and a $1,000 annual Health Spending Account.
- RRSP: 2% employer-sponsored contribution.
- Enjoy three weeks of vacation, six flex days, and a one-week paid company-wide holiday shutdown.
- $1,000 annual professional development allowance to support your ongoing learning, skill development, and career growth.
- Dress for your day in a casual, professional environment.
- Work in a hybrid environment (4 days in the office).
What You Will Do
- Partner with operations teams, engineers, and other users to understand business needs and define clear system requirements.
- Design, build, maintain, and support user-facing and server-side applications using Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Develop practical tools and user interfaces that improve production workflows, reduce manual tasks, and support operational decision-making.
- Build and maintain API integrations, automated workflows, and data pipelines between business and manufacturing systems.
- Connect applications with factory equipment, sensors, and Internet of Things and operational technology (IoT/OT) systems to collect data and support factory operations.
- Work with databases, write SQL queries, and verify data accuracy across connected systems.
- Contribute to system architecture and clearly explain design decisions, alternatives, and trade-offs.
- Deploy, secure, monitor, and support cloud applications using containers, automated testing, and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes.
- Investigate and resolve application, integration, data, and access issues while coordinating changes with system owners and factory teams to minimize production disruption.
- Review code, maintain automated tests, document systems and support procedures, and drive the reliability, security, and continued improvement of assigned systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional software development experience, excluding internships and co-op placements.
- Demonstrated programming ability in Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Experience developing both user interfaces and server-side applications.
- Practical user interface and user experience (UI/UX) experience, including creating clear layouts, usable forms, and responsive screens.
- Experience with SQL, database design, data integration, data pipelines, and data analysis.
- Experience integrating systems through APIs, including implementing error handling, retries, and duplicate-prevention controls.
- Demonstrated understanding of software architecture and experience designing practical, maintainable solutions.
- Experience deploying, securing, monitoring, and troubleshooting applications in Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience using Docker or similar container technologies.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), including automated testing, build, and deployment processes.
- Experience using Git, GitHub, code reviews, and collaborative software development practices.
- Current practical experience with AI-assisted and agent-based software development, including assessing new tools and verifying the quality and security of generated code.
- Demonstrated experience independently delivering and supporting working software, with the ability to clearly explain individual contributions and key technical decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and business processes and adapt to changing requirements.
- Clear communication and a collaborative working style, including the ability to contribute ideas, explain reasoning, respectfully challenge assumptions, and accept feedback.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, React and FastAPI.
- Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, and GitHub Actions.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, single sign-on, and role-based access control.
- Experience with NetSuite, SAP Concur, FactoryLogix, Arena, or similar business and manufacturing platforms.
- Experience with manufacturing, quality, warehouse, or product traceability processes.
- Experience with Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and operational technology, including connected equipment, sensors, and production data collection.
- Experience working with large datasets and efficient data-processing methods.
- Experience supporting barcode scanners, tablets, or applications used on the production floor.
- Manufacturing or industrial systems experience.
