At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

About the Role

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations — which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance — supporting Manufacturing and Supply Chain across all Blue Origin facilities. You will sit on the software team within Operations that builds tools in direct support of our Manufacturing Engineers.

We are returning humankind to the Moon, and Blue Origin's Manufacturing Engineers build the hardware that gets us there. On our small AI Solutions team, you will own the backend and data layer behind the tools a 100+ person Manufacturing Engineering organization depends on. Several enterprise systems describe the same products from different angles, and they do not always agree. Your work turns that into one trusted picture of the product: the data models, integrations, and APIs our applications and AI features are built on. This is a systems-design role at its core, and the best engineers here also make a point of understanding the people they build for, so you will spend time on the floor with Manufacturing Engineers to learn the work before building for it.

Special Mentions

  • Shifts: 1st | Mon–Fri (8am–5pm)
  • Location: Renton, WA (fully onsite / "work from work," co-located with the Manufacturing Engineering organization and production floor)
  • Relocation: Available

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the backend services, APIs, and data models behind the tools our team builds, primarily in Python, holding the technical-design and code-review bar as they grow.
  • Build integrations that bring product data together from our enterprise systems, reconciling sources that describe the same things in different ways.
  • Improve, harden, and modernize existing applications — not just greenfield work — including auth, data integrity, testing, and technical debt.
  • Shape our product data so AI features can actually use it: structure, naming, and context a model can navigate reliably — plus human-in-the-loop safeguards and the evaluations that show whether those features are working.
  • Deploy and operate the team's services on our cloud infrastructure (AWS), including CI/CD, monitoring, day-to-day reliability, and a share of on-call.
  • Spend time with Manufacturing Engineers to learn how their work actually flows, and use data to validate that what you ship is actually helping the engineers who use it.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production backend services
  • Strong backend and API development in Python or a comparable language (REST and/or GraphQL), including interfaces that applications and AI agents both build on
  • Depth in relational data modeling and SQL — changing a schema and migrating data in production without breaking the applications built on it
  • Experience integrating multiple systems of record: reconciling identifiers, handling incomplete or inconsistent data, and building pipelines that recover cleanly from partial failure
  • Hands-on experience deploying and running applications on AWS and containerized infrastructure
  • Comfortable integrating LLMs into products, with judgment about what data a model can actually work with and whether an AI-assisted system is genuinely working — designing evaluations, questioning flattering results, and reviewing AI-generated code for correctness
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration; able to work directly with non-technical users to turn their needs into working software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing a shared data model or service that multiple applications depend on
  • Experience preparing data for retrieval or agentic use, where the data's shape rather than the prompt was what made it work
  • Experience modeling complex hierarchical data, such as product structures or bills of materials
  • Experience connecting documents and engineering artifacts into structured workflows
  • Prior experience building software in, or in direct support of, a manufacturing, aerospace, hardware production, or operations environment
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES), work-order/work-instruction authoring systems, or PLM — or a demonstrated habit of learning a domain deeply before building for it
  • Experience building internal tools that other engineers or operators actually adopted
  • Experience with lakehouse and analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks, Spark SQL)
