Lead Solution Design Engineer (Mechanical)

Solutioning Team | Pune, India | In Campus | L4 / M1

About Unbox Robotics

Unbox Robotics builds the world’s most compact, AI-powered mobile robotic sorting and order consolidation

systems for warehouses and distribution centers — installing 10X faster, saving 50%+ space, and delivering 3X

productivity gains. Backed by marquee investors, we are scaling deployments across India, the US, and

Europe.

The Role

You will be the hardware and layout design authority for our sorting and order consolidation solutions —

owning specifications, BOMs, site layouts, and throughput commitments on our most complex deployments,

and setting the standards the rest of the Solutioning team designs to.

This is a senior technical role, not an administrative one. Even on the M1 track the majority of your time stays

on design work: you lead through design reviews, standards, and mentoring rather than through process

management.

Key Responsibilities

Own end-to-end solution architecture and layouts for parcel sorting and order consolidation systems, and

act as design authority on the most complex deployments.

Own the BOM — component selection, cost optimisation, lead times, vendor alternatives — and hold final

sign-off on every released BOM.

Define and refine product specifications from deep knowledge of the robotic platform’s mechanical

envelope and its limits.

Produce 2D Layouts & 3D Models (AutoCAD / SolidEdge) and 3D renderings for new configurations; review

and approve the team’s drawings against defined layout standards.

Plan detailed site layouts with customers — robot zones, charging stations, induction and discharge points,

conveyor routing, buffer areas, operator workstations.

Own integration across mechanical, electrical, and electronics subsystems — drives, sensors, power

distribution, charging systems, conveyor interfaces — and settle cross-domain trade-offs.

Assess site civil and structural readiness — flooring type, flatness, load-bearing capacity, coatings,

expansion joints, ramp gradients, ceiling clearances — and call remediation scope or go/no-go.

Set the solutioning standards the team works to: design rules, standard configurations, layout templates,

BOM structures, and design review gates.

Work with Mechanical, Electronics, and Production to keep designs manufacturable, serviceable, and field-

deployable, and feed recurring field constraints back as prioritised product requirements.

Mentor solution design engineers and run design reviews;

Requirements

B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.

5–12 years in solution design, product or systems engineering, or industrial/warehouse automation.

3+ years as end-to-end technical owner of customer-facing solutions, concept to commissioning.

Deep mechanical and electrical/electronics judgement — motors, sensors, power systems, wiring,

enclosures, safety standards.

Strong 2D CAD (AutoCAD) and 3D CAD (SolidEdge); able to define layout and drawing standards.

Proven BOM ownership across electromechanical assemblies, including should-costing and delivered cost

reductions.

Ability to read and challenge civil/structural drawings, flooring specifications, and site readiness.

Strong analytical skills in throughput modelling, and process optimisation.

Excellent communication skills to lead customer workshops and drive cross-team alignment.

Good to Have

Robotic systems, AGVs/AMRs, or conveyor-based automation deployed at scale in warehouse/logistics.

Industrial safety and compliance depth: CE, UL, ISO 12100, IEC 60204.

Deployments across multiple geographies and on-site work with customer operations teams.

We Value

Location Pune, India (In Campus)

Level L4 (Senior IC) / M1 — technical track

Experience 5–12 Years

Reports To Head of Solutioning

Travel ~25–35% to customer and deployment sites

Compensation Competitive Salary
