Job Description:

Department Overview

TD IT Architecture covers TD’s overall technology strategy, direction and standards for designing and developing architecture frameworks. This includes technology architecture strategies, policies, guiding principles and standards that govern how technology solutions are developed and implemented across the organization.

Our architects develop and maintain solution and application architecture, infrastructure environment architecture, technical integration architecture, data strategies and models, security architecture and enterprise architecture.

There’s room to grow in all of it.

Job Accountabilities: What You’ll Do

Join a high-impact architecture team shaping the future of customer engagement across onboarding, customer management and advice. You will design and deliver scalable, compliant and customer-centric solutions that power end-to-end onboarding journeys, enable a unified customer view, and support digital and advisor-led advice experiences.

With a strong focus on customer and colleague experience, you will help modernize how customers discover, apply for and manage products across channels, while equipping branch advisors with integrated tools and insights. You will support headless, API-first and event-driven architectures that enable seamless integration across systems and channels while meeting regulatory and data governance requirements.

Solution Architecture and Design

  • Design end-to-end solution architectures and develop architecture frameworks, strategies, policies, guiding principles, patterns and standards that govern how technology solutions are developed and implemented.
  • Develop and maintain efficient, reliable, scalable and secure architectural solutions that align with business needs, technology strategy and enterprise standards.
  • Analyze business requirements, map relevant processes and subprocesses, and recommend practical technology solutions that bridge business problems and technology capabilities.
  • Apply multidisciplinary expertise across databases, applications, client tiers, software layering, infrastructure, middleware, and build, test and deployment strategies to create the overall software design and guide development across teams.
  • Strengthen the use of applications and data as differentiators for the customer experience, supported by resilient infrastructure and platform foundations.
  • Advise on the suitability of technology stacks and establish design principles and key constraints for solution components, including security, scalability and future-design impact assessments.
  • Review detailed solution architectures and designs to confirm they meet business requirements and comply with architectural, security and development standards, patterns and frameworks.
  • Provide architectural sign-off on detailed designs within the role’s assigned decision rights.
  • Develop project blueprints and design specifications, and contribute architectural input to project plans, system requirements, scope and cost estimates.
  • Design highly complex and scalable systems with a focus on reliability, architectural infrastructure and long-term resiliency.
  • Set service-level objectives and develop observability standards so production systems operate under known conditions and provide transparent measurements that help identify potential errors or failures.
  • Support the design of tests that keep software functional and contribute to issue analysis and resolution during testing and production.
  • Conduct pre- and post-implementation reviews to confirm technical solutions meet business requirements.

Technology Delivery and Engineering Practices

  • Assess practical program concerns and identify opportunities to upgrade technologies and platforms, reduce technology debt, and build resilient server-side and user-side capabilities.
  • Lead code reviews and the creation and testing of prototypes to assess the viability of proposed approaches.
  • Use configuration management, version control, integration and build-automation tools to support code deployment, provide proof points for development teams, and recommend integration fixes and improvements.
  • Keep track of code changes through appropriate control systems.
  • Support engineering practices such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, automated testing, pair programming and test-driven development, where applicable.
  • Identify continuous improvement and automation opportunities across development, testing and delivery activities.
  • Anticipate architectural issues and gaps, assess emerging industry trends, and recommend value-added improvements that reduce technology debt and strengthen solution resiliency

Governance, Risk and Compliance

  • Ensure projects comply with technology domain architecture, security requirements, development standards and established delivery practices.
  • Design and operate processes that provide ongoing review of in-progress activities against architecture and development standards.
  • Lead interactions with governance and control groups, including regulatory and operational risk, compliance and audit, to provide subject-matter expertise and consultation on risks associated with architecture, technology and tools.
  • Contribute to cross-functional and enterprise initiatives as an architecture or subject-matter expert, helping identify risks and provide guidance for significant and complex situations.
  • Protect and enhance the security and availability of technology, brand integrity and shareholder value by establishing appropriate technology parameters and providing technical risk analysis and assessment.
  • Ensure assigned programs, policies and practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities.
  • Identify and manage risks, escalating non-standard or high-risk activities when necessary.
  • Stay current on emerging issues, industry trends and evolving regulatory requirements, and assess their potential impacts.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control supported by effective processes aligned with TD’s risk appetite.
  • Identify enhancements and gaps in architectural frameworks, standards and patterns for consideration in future versions.
  • Contribute to the processes through which technology-standard decisions are made

Collaboration and Delivery

  • Communicate effectively with business and technology partners to understand business needs, recommend practical solutions and advance the long-term architecture vision.
  • Monitor and report on the progress and status of products, projects and applications within the assigned portfolio.
  • Direct assigned resources as required, communicate project status and escalate issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate broadly with designers, engineers, architecture practices, platforms, journeys and business stakehold
