About Providence Hall Junior High

Providence Hall is a public charter school committed to helping students think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly. At the junior high, we strive to create a supportive middle school experience where students are known, challenged, and prepared for success in high school and beyond.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Special Education Math Teacher who enjoys working with middle school students and is skilled at making mathematics accessible, meaningful, and achievable for learners with diverse needs. This position combines direct mathematics instruction, specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, collaboration, and IEP case management as part of a supportive special education team.

What You Will Do

Teach engaging, standards-aligned mathematics to students in grades 6-8 receiving special education services, with an emphasis on building foundational skills, conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical confidence.

Plan and deliver specially designed instruction aligned with student IEP goals and Utah mathematics standards, using explicit instruction, scaffolds, accommodations, interventions, and evidence-based practices.

Use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment data to identify learning needs, set appropriate goals, monitor student progress, and adjust instruction.

Develop, implement, monitor, and revise high-quality IEPs; schedule and facilitate IEP meetings in a collaborative, family-friendly manner and within required timelines.

Collaborate closely with general education math teachers, paraeducators, parents/guardians, special educators, counselors, and related service providers to support student success in inclusive and specialized settings.

Support students in developing executive-functioning, self-advocacy, social, adaptive, and positive behavior skills that contribute to success in middle school.

Provide guidance and direction to paraprofessionals supporting students in mathematics and other assigned settings.

Participate in grade-level, department, campus, and LEA meetings, professional learning, and school activities.

Contribute to a positive school culture by building strong relationships with students and maintaining high expectations with compassion, consistency, and accountability.

Complete other responsibilities reasonably related to the position as assigned.

Schedule and Professional Responsibilities

8+ hours per day on scheduled teaching/working days.

The 5-7 days before the scheduled start of the school year.

Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Department, building, and LEA professional development, trainings, and meetings.

Qualifications

Current Utah educator license with a Special Education license area/appropriate Mild/Moderate Support Needs credential, or ability to obtain appropriate Utah licensure.

Strong mathematics content knowledge and demonstrated ability to teach middle school mathematics to students with disabilities. A Utah Special Education Mathematics endorsement is preferred but is not currently required by USBE to teach special education mathematics courses.

Knowledge of Utah mathematics standards, special education law and procedures, IEP development, progress monitoring, accommodations, and specially designed instruction.

Classroom experience, student teaching, or other relevant experience working with middle school students with a range of learning, behavioral, emotional, or physical support needs.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage instructional and compliance responsibilities effectively.

Positive, professional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with students, families, colleagues, and service providers.

Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solutions-focused in a fast-paced middle school environment.

Experience with Skyward and Google Workspace preferred.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in an emergency.

Must pass required education verification, background screening, and professional reference checks.

Why Providence Hall Junior High?
