Smoky Mountain Children's Home , a faith-based non-profit organization , is seeking a Special Educator for the Sevierville, TN campus . In this role, you will be in a position to make a positive difference in the lives of at-risk youth.

Job Summary

The Special Educator ensures students with diverse learning needs receive comprehensive support to achieve academic goals. You will develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans that meet licensing, legal, and documentation standards while tailoring instruction in small group, one-on-one, and inclusion settings . You will collaborate with teachers, therapists, administrators, and families to foster a supportive network, maintain the special education environment, and ensure licensing compliance .

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & IEPs: Evaluate student needs and develop/maintain IEPs and 504 plans .

Instruction: Adapt general curriculum to deliver specialized instruction in small groups or one-on-one .

Progress Tracking: Monitor academic performance and adjust instructional methods as needed .

Collaboration: Host IEP meetings with parents and staff; train personnel on accommodations .

Compliance & Support: Support student transitions, assist with milieu coverage, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Professional Development: Supervise approved interns and participate in ongoing training .

Qualifications

Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree (minimum) with active Tennessee Teacher Certification in Secondary Education and Special Education .

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in public and/or private school settings .

Skills & Attributes: Strong collaborative mindset, teachable spirit, supportive leadership qualities, and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team .

Health & Physical: Must be in good physical and mental health .

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Work Environment: 90% Indoor / 10% Outdoor

Physical Requirements: Sitting (80%), Standing (10%), Walking (10%)

Salary Information:

$41,000-$47,000 per year (commensurate with your level of qualified education ), with a $1000/year pay increase after a 90-day probationary period (with a favorable performance evaluation), and benefits such as 100% paid medical coverage and more!
