Specialist, Software Engineer – IBM ACE & ETL (Integration Specialist)

Build the connections that keep Commercial Lines moving

Nationwide Technology is looking for a technically curious, delivery-focused Specialist Software Engineer to strengthen and modernize the integrations that power Commercial Lines. In this role, you will design, build, test, troubleshoot, and support enterprise integration solutions using Informatica ETL, IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE), IBM MQ, REST and SOAP services, databases, microservices, and API platforms such as Apigee.

You will work at the intersection of real-time messaging, API orchestration, data transformation, and batch processing. Your work will help move policy transaction data securely and reliably between PolicyCenter, internal applications, downstream platforms, vendors, and regulatory consumers.

This is an opportunity to bring fresh energy to critical integration capabilities while improving reliability, observability, maintainability, and developer experience.

The Integration Layer: ACE and Informatica ETL

ACE and Informatica ETL are complementary capabilities within the Commercial Lines Integration Layer. ACE supports real-time application, messaging, API, and service integration, while Informatica ETL extracts, transforms, and loads data across operational systems, analytical processes, files, vendors, and downstream consumers. This position is designed for an engineer who wants to develop a broad integration skillset by executing work across both disciplines.

You will build expertise in designing dependable data movement patterns end to end: receiving and parsing messages, orchestrating APIs and services, extracting data from source systems, applying business and data-quality transformations, loading curated outputs, and supporting the operational flow across environments.

What you’ll do

  • Design, enhance, deploy, and support IBM ACE integration flows that connect applications, services, databases, and external partners.
  • Build message flows using MQ, HTTP, REST, SOAP, Compute, Flow Order, Failure, Catch, and other ACE nodes.
  • Implement secure API and service integrations, including OAuth 2.0 authentication and authorization, token acquisition, header management, endpoint invocation, response handling, and error processing.
  • Develop microservices and API-led integrations that are scalable, resilient, reusable, and aligned with enterprise integration standards.
  • Configure and troubleshoot MQ Input and MQ Output nodes, including transactionality, MQ order properties, MQ transaction mode properties, and message delivery behavior.
  • Apply and troubleshoot Compute node mode properties, including Compute mode transaction mode properties, to control message propagation and transaction boundaries.
  • Design robust Failure Terminal and Catch Terminal handling patterns for recoverable errors, technical exceptions, business exceptions, retries, alerts, and operational support.
  • Analyze message parsing behavior across common formats and configure flows to correctly parse, validate, route, and transform message payloads.
  • Apply data mapping and transformation techniques across XML, JSON, copybooks, service payloads, database records, and downstream file layouts.
  • Develop ESQL using built-in ESQL functions, reusable procedures, shared logic, and effective exception-handling patterns.
  • Call Java methods from ESQL when Java-based capabilities are the right fit for specialized processing, reusable utilities, or integration with existing components.
  • Design and troubleshoot SOAP nodes, WSDL-based services, REST APIs, HTTP nodes, and service orchestration patterns.
  • Integrate ACE with Oracle and other data sources through ODBC connectivity, SQL queries, stored procedures, and database-driven processing.
  • Use Global Cache patterns to share and retrieve data across message flows while considering consistency, performance, expiration, and operational behavior.
  • Understand and apply the difference between Message ID and Correlation ID when tracing requests, matching responses, supporting asynchronous processing, and diagnosing message flow behavior.
  • Apply multiple message propagation concepts to produce, route, and manage more than one output message from a single input message when business scenarios require it.
  • Use TRY-CATCH and Flow Order node scenarios to sequence processing, isolate failures, coordinate parallel or ordered actions, and create predictable recovery paths.
  • Develop and maintain integrations through Apigee, including API exposure, policy enforcement, security, traffic management, analytics, and lifecycle support.
  • Develop Informatica ETL mappings and workflows that extract data from source systems, transform it using business rules and data-quality logic, and load it into target tables, files, feeds, and downstream platforms.
  • Build and support ETL processes that move policy transaction data through Oracle and other source systems into operational, reporting, financial, vendor, and regulatory outputs.
  • Use Informatica transformations, lookups, joins, filters, aggregations, expressions, routers, parameters, reusable mapplets, and workflow controls to produce accurate and traceable data.
  • Monitor ETL sessions and workflows, troubleshoot rejected records and data-quality issues, manage dependencies, and support reruns and recovery with appropriate restart and reconciliation practices.
  • Support production incidents, job failures, data issues, message reprocessing, operational reruns, and root-cause analysis across connected systems.
  • Partner with product owners, architects, analysts, testers, application teams, and downstream consumers to deliver dependable solutions.
