Description

CM&B is seeking a motivated Estimating Intern (Co-op) to join our Estimating and Preconstruction team. This role offers hands-on exposure to the earliest stages of the construction process, where projects move from concept to reality.

As an intern, you'll learn how construction opportunities are evaluated, priced, and prepared for successful execution. Working alongside experienced estimators and preconstruction professionals, you'll gain valuable experience reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and supporting the development of competitive project proposals.

This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related fields who are interested in the business and planning side of construction.

What You'll Learn

As an Estimating Intern, you will:

  • Develop an understanding of estimating and preconstruction processes for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
  • Learn how to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Gain exposure to quantity takeoffs, scope analysis, and cost estimating techniques.
  • Understand how subcontractors and suppliers contribute to project pricing and planning.
  • Experience the collaboration required between owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and construction professionals.
  • Build a foundation of knowledge that will support future career opportunities in construction management, estimating, project management, or field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the estimating team with bidding and preconstruction activities.
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project requirements.
  • Help identify subcontractor and material supplier scopes of work.
  • Distribute bidding documents and communicate with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Support the quantity takeoff process.
  • Assist with maintaining estimating databases and project information.
  • Track bid schedules and estimating deadlines.
  • Help manage requests for information (RFIs) during the bidding process.
  • Build professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Support additional estimating and preconstruction tasks as assigned.

Why CM&B?

At CM&B, interns are given meaningful responsibilities and the opportunity to learn from experienced construction professionals. You'll gain real-world exposure to the planning and pricing of complex construction projects while building valuable industry relationships and skills that will support your future career.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in construction estimating, preconstruction, and project planning.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
