Spring Law Student Internship – Denver Housing Unit

Position Summary:

Law students perform a variety of duties at CLS depending on their experience level and the needs of the particular project or office. CLS is seeking a law student that will work with the Adams housing clinic. The student will participate in clinics and support the work of attorneys and paralegals. There will be opportunities to work directly with individuals facing eviction and support with their legal cases.

Essential Duties:

A ssist with the investigation of applicant’s legal issues through client interviews, documentary review, research and analysis .

Assist at the Housing Unit’s Eviction Clinic in Adams County .

Additional duties may include drafting of advice letter s , pleadings, memoranda and briefs and legal research.

Assistance with any other tasks necessary to carry out effective representation of clients .

Required Qualifications:

S trong commitment to legal issues affecting low-income individuals

S trong interest in research, writing and interviewing

Strong commitment to working with vulnerable individuals, including disabled and elderly clients in need of legal assistance .

Candidate should be confident and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Spanish-speaking ability

Location:

This position is housed in the Denver office and the Adams clinic .

Time commitment:

Part-time, exact hours will depend on student’s schedule and any course requirements.

Compensation:

The position is unpaid but is open to receiving other work study funds that are student generated . Students may apply for course credit through their Externship Program.
