We have been fueled by insightful strategy, creative tactics, and plain old hustle for over 20 years. We are people of color, women, immigrants, disabled, and LGBTQ. Spend time with us and you will quickly learn we value smarts, creativity, and audaciousness in just about all we do… and a sense of humor is a contractual must. Learn more at raben.co.

What We Seek:

We seek a Senior Associate to join our Issue Campaigns practice. Senior Associates at our firm bring hands-on contextual knowledge and strong project management abilities to our client engagements. Specifically, candidates who join our Issue Campaigns practice will have a track record of successful involvement in coalition building, mobilizing grassroots leaders, targeted messaging, direct stakeholder outreach, and/or implementing new initiatives and programs. Add to that a high degree of initiative, personal resilience, attention to detail, real-time good judgment, a lot of creativity, and a concierge-like approach to client services.

This position is based in our downtown LA office and offers schedule flexibility, while prioritizing a consistent and meaningful in-office presence to support collaboration and team engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with client services teams, with a focus on executing multi-faceted campaign strategy and tactics.
  • Contribute to strategy, work plan development and management, and other related services in support of successful engagements.
  • In collaboration with team members, develop, refine and/or execute various deliverables, to include environmental scans, coalition building and management, program/work plans, messaging and narrative materials, summative reports, recommendation memos, presentation decks, etc.
  • Engage in and support coalition and issue campaign development activities, including networking, identifying opportunities for engagement, movement activities, etc.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client logistical interactions, managing and scheduling meetings and materials.
  • Manage and support development of client- and practice-area-related data, materials, and other information with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Contribute to the Issue Campaigns practice area substantively and tactically – thought partnership, knowledge-sharing, problem-solving, work planning, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Requirements

  • 3 – 5 years experience in grassroots movements, coalition building, and/or stakeholder outreach.
  • Deep connections to organizations, foundations, and nonprofit groups advocating for, working with, or representing marginalized groups and communities, especially those serving Black and Latino/a populations.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills. Candidates must have the demonstrable ability to quickly produce clear, compelling, written collateral.
  • Ability to thrive and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrable project management skills across multiple assignments with many moving parts.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in work products and deliverables.
  • Experience translating policy generalities into specific outcomes that resonate with stakeholders is a strong plus.
