Build the future of P&C capital performance at Nationwide

Nationwide is seeking a Senior Consultant, Risk Analytics to join the Capital Forecasting team within Enterprise Risk Management. This is a new opportunity to help update the framework that will guide how our Property & Casualty businesses set, monitor, and improve target returns and target combined ratios.

You will connect sophisticated P&C actuarial and financial-risk analysis to enterprise business decisions. Working across Finance, P&C Actuarial, Risk Management, Capital Modeling, and business leaders, you will turn complex data into clear targets, actionable recommendations, and a consistent capital monitoring and reporting framework.

What you’ll do

  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for P&C target returns, target combined ratios and capital analytics.
  • Help enhance and strengthen the P&C capital monitoring and reporting framework to better support capital deployment decisions.
  • Partner with business units to determine appropriate targets at a granular cell-planning unit level and evaluate performance against those targets.
  • Lead the annual review of target assumptions and recommend changes as business conditions and performance evolve.
  • Apply financial-risk and P&C analytics, including underwriting performance, loss-ratio history, pricing and reserving insights, and more.
  • Work with modeling partners to understand model outputs and translate them into practical business recommendations.
  • Present technical findings and strategic recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and business leaders.
  • Build alignment across stakeholders, socialize a new framework, and guide it from design through implementation and ongoing operation.

What we’re looking for

  • Seven or more years of experience in P&C actuarial, insurance analytics, financial-risk modeling, capital management, underwriting performance, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of P&C financial risk and profitability; relevant experience may include pricing, reserving, target returns, combined ratios, capital modeling, or corporate actuarial work.
  • The ability to understand sophisticated quantitative analysis and communicate the “why” behind targets and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated success influencing partners across Finance, Actuarial, Risk Management, modeling, and business functions.
  • Strong judgment, executive communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Comfort creating structure and delivering results when the starting process is incomplete or needs to be rebuilt.
  • An ACAS, FCAS, or progress toward an actuarial or comparable quantitative designation is preferred, but not required for the right candidate.
  • Experience with stochastic modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, predictive analytics, machine learning, enterprise risk, M&A, or related capital and portfolio analytics is also valued.

Why this opportunity

This role offers the chance to build something new and highly visible: an updated P&C capital performance framework that will help Nationwide better understand its business, align target returns with risk, and make stronger capital deployment decisions. You will have broad exposure across Finance, Actuarial, Risk Management, and business leadership, with the opportunity to see your framework move from strategy to execution.

If you are a P&C actuary, financial-risk modeler, insurance analytics leader, or capital forecasting professional who enjoys solving complex problems and building trusted partnerships, we invite you to learn more.

This role can be staffed fully remote.
