Role Overview - Senior Engineer – Full Stack (Safe & Secure Platform)

• The role is for the TES LegalTech – Safe & Secure space, managing the IT platforms that support physical security and safety-related business processes across Target locations. This includes systems that enable secure access to facilities, real-time safety communications, and crisis response operations.
• The Safe & Secure platform is built on Target standard open-source technologies – Kotlin/Java, Spring Boot, React – with a strong emphasis on backend services, APIs, and event-driven architectures. The platform operates within a broader ecosystem of integrated security and operations systems, requiring robust integration patterns, data orchestration, and seamless user experiences.
• The platform is evolving to incorporate GenAI capabilities to improve decision support, automation, and user experience across safety and operational workflows. The business and technology footprint continues to expand with integrations across enterprise systems, geospatial intelligence, and data engineering platforms to support real-time insights, reporting, and future scalability.
• The team owns a diverse set of capabilities including:

• •Safety Communications (emergency alerts, weather and travel notifications)
• •Crisis Management (real-time incident tracking, geolocation, and operations tooling)

• This role is for a Senior Engineer – Full Stack to contribute to business feature delivery, platform enhancements, and technical excellence across the Safe & Secure ecosystem. The engineer will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business partners to build scalable solutions, improve platform capabilities, and support the evolution of the architecture while maintaining operational excellence.
• Senior Engineer Expectations

• •Design, develop, and support scalable full-stack applications and services across the Safe & Secure platform.
• •Contribute to system design and architectural discussions, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and secure.
• •Build and maintain APIs, integrations, and event-driven services that enable seamless connectivity across enterprise platforms.
• •Apply modern engineering practices including API-first design, observability, resiliency, and automated testing.
• •Collaborate with product, security, and operations teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs.
• •Support platform modernization efforts by identifying and implementing technical improvements and simplification opportunities.
• •Contribute to GenAI-enabled capabilities through integration with data, services, and emerging AI technologies where applicable.
• •Ensure systems meet reliability, performance, and security expectations, especially for business-critical workflows.
• •Troubleshoot production issues, participate in operational support, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• •Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• •Stay current with emerging technologies, engineering practices, and industry trends to bring innovative solutions to the team.

About You

• •4-year degree or equivalent experience.
• •5+ years of software development experience with experience delivering enterprise-scale applications.
• •Strong experience in Kotlin/Java, Spring Boot, Golang, Kafka, REST/GraphQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, and modern frontend frameworks (React preferred).
• •Experience building scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.
• •Strong understanding of integration patterns including APIs, messaging, and event-driven architectures.
• •Experience working with cloud-native applications, observability, and operational excellence practices.
• •Exposure to GenAI/ML ecosystems, Python, LLM integrations, or data engineering concepts is a plus.
• •Demonstrates strong coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• •Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• •Experience participating in technical design discussions and delivering solutions from concept through production.
• •Proven ability to mentor peers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
• •Passion for learning and applying new technologies to solve business challenges.
