Job Description

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Artificial Intelligence to lead the development and execution of our AI strategy across Materials Science R&D within our Electron Microscopy business.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how artificial intelligence transforms advanced scientific instruments and enables new ways for researchers and scientists to interact with our technologies.

You will play a pivotal role in establishing AI as a core R&D capability, defining a harmonized strategy across multiple product lines and translating emerging AI technologies into meaningful customer value.

Working with senior leaders and expert teams across our global organization, you will have the opportunity to influence AI direction at both business unit and divisional levels.

What Will You Do?

  • Shape our AI strategy: Define, own and drive the execution of a scalable AI strategy across Materials Science R&D, ensuring alignment with broader business priorities.
  • Turn strategy into impact: Translate AI opportunities into clear technical priorities, actionable roadmaps and innovative capabilities that deliver measurable value to our customers.
  • Lead and inspire: Build, develop and empower a small, highly skilled team of AI specialists focused on strategic, cross-product initiatives.
  • Drive next-generation AI innovation: Champion advanced AI capabilities, including agentic AI architectures that enable intelligent interaction between scientists, digital agents and our instruments.
  • Influence across the organization: Collaborate with senior R&D leaders, software and systems engineering teams, product management, marketing and digital platform teams to drive alignment and execution.
  • Connect technology with customer needs: Work closely with application specialists and product teams to identify emerging scientific workflows and translate them into valuable AI solutions.
  • Create synergies across product lines: Establish common approaches and architectures across our Electron Microscopy and analytical product portfolio, enabling scalable and reusable AI capabilities.
  • Build global partnerships: Develop strong relationships across geographically distributed teams, influence technology roadmaps and represent AI initiatives in senior leadership discussions.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

We are looking for a strategic and collaborative leader who combines a strong understanding of AI technologies with the ability to influence, communicate and deliver results in a complex global environment.

  • Executive communication and influence: You can communicate complex technical ideas and strategic recommendations clearly, persuasively and visually to senior leaders and diverse audiences.
  • Strategic thinking and execution: You have experience defining technology direction, setting priorities and turning ambitious strategies into tangible outcomes.
  • AI expertise: You bring a solid understanding of modern AI/ML technologies, architectures and emerging trends, including generative and agentic AI, and can guide technical decisions.
  • Cross-functional leadership: You know how to build consensus, navigate different priorities and collaborate effectively across technical and business functions.
  • People leadership: You have experience leading, coaching and developing highly capable technical professionals.
  • Systems thinking: You can connect customer needs, complex products, enabling platforms and long-term technology opportunities into a coherent vision.
  • Global mindset: You are comfortable working with international stakeholders and leading through influence rather than formal authority alone.
  • Experience in scientific instrumentation, advanced technology products or complex R&D environments would be an advantage.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a real impact on the future of AI. This is not simply a role focused on implementing AI solutions. You will help define how AI becomes an integral part of our scientific technologies and R&D strategy.
  • Influence at the highest levels. Work directly with senior R&D leadership and collaborate with decision-makers across our business unit and division.
  • Innovate across a global product portfolio. Help bring advanced AI capabilities to sophisticated scientific instruments used by researchers and scientists around the world.
  • Lead in a formative phase. Join us at a defining moment in our AI journey, with the opportunity to establish common approaches, influence future investments and leave a lasting impact.
  • Collaborate with exceptional colleagues. Become part of an international R&D leadership community, working closely with experts in Brno, Eindhoven and other global locations.
