We are the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco — public servants with a mission to advance the nation’s monetary, financial, and payment systems to build a stronger economy for all Americans. As part of the nation’s central bank, we are committed to understanding and serving the vibrant, expansive communities of the Twelfth District, which covers the nine western states of the U.S. That means we seek and appreciate new perspectives and build opportunities to learn and grow. At the SF Fed, we approach our work with integrity and a commitment to service.
Who we are :
The Community Engagement and Analysis team works to understand the economic experiences of lower-income households by engaging communities, conducting and sharing research on community development topics, and fostering connections among those working to expand economic opportunity and investment activity to support low- and moderate-income communities in the Twelfth District.
Through events, roundtables, and one-on-one conversations, the team facilitates dialogue, shared learning, and partnership building across sectors. The group’s activities inform monetary policy and other areas of work at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and help banks understand the financial and credit needs of local communities and support meeting requirements under the Community Reinvestment Act.
Who we are looking for:
- You have a deep and wide knowledge of community development, including issues related to access to credit and financial services, labor force participation, housing, and neighborhood revitalization across Washington and Alaska, including Native communities (i.e., American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities).
- You have connections in nonprofit, local and state government agencies, and financial institutions that support low-and-moderate income communities -- including CDFIs.
- You have worked with Native communities and have relationships with Native-serving organizations.
- You are good at problem-solving, spotting trends, and seeing opportunities for collaboration.
- You enjoy conducting outreach, hosting convenings, connecting people, and presenting to a wide variety of audiences.
Does this sound like you?
In this important role on our team, you will:
- Conduct outreach to financial institutions, community-based organizations, local government agencies, and Native-serving organizations to identify community development needs and surface solutions in low- and moderate-income communities.
- Host events, roundtables, and meetings to cultivate strategic partnerships, bringing the best thinking and resources together to address the barriers to economic opportunities.
- Identify emerging issues and solutions affecting the community development industry to bring information to the sector, e.g. AI, new funding models, innovations in public-private partnerships.
- Share Federal Reserve tools and research to inform community development efforts.
- Advise the Community Engagement & Analysis team on Native community development topics and opportunities for convening and representing the team's work with Native-focused audiences to expand networks and build strategic relationships.
- Seek collaboration opportunities with internal stakeholders on topics such as the Community Reinvestment Act and access to credit.
- Contribute to Federal Reserve System Community Development initiatives and working groups.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, business, or related field required.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience in community development is typically required.
- Proven leadership skills that demonstrate experience in coalition building and a collaborative, data-driven approach to outreach and engagement.
- Self-motivated professional who proactively identifies opportunities, sets clear objectives, and executes independently while staying aligned with team goals.
- Experience working with Native communities on community and economic development issues.
- Strong experience planning, coordinating, marketing, and facilitating meetings, convenings, and events. You should be very organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable speaking to large and small groups at all levels.
- Familiarity with the Community Reinvestment Act.
- Truly superior communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Must work out of the Seattle, Washington branch.
- This is an external-facing role and the position requires extensive outside engagement with community partners, both locally and across the given territory. In addition to local engagement, you must be willing and able to travel (up to 30%).
