The Senior Preditor is a senior-level production role within Production Services, responsible for producing, editing, and delivering best-in-class digital video content across all platforms. The Senior Preditor delivers high-quality planned and breaking content under tight deadlines, partnering with senior production leaders to oversee creation, refinement, and distribution. This role leads strategic, high-impact projects that advance National Geographic’s mission and audience engagement through creativity, collaboration, and sound judgment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, create and edit engaging social media content for all National Geographic’s platforms.
  • Organize direct shoots, collaborating with cross-functional teams—such as editorial, video, and marketing—to coordinate new stories, special projects, and brand initiatives across social channels.
  • Collaborate with various internal creative/technical departments such as audio, engineering, content operations to achieve efficiencies and creative excellence.
  • Create project backups and archive projects after completion.
  • Confirm folders as a checklist of required spot elements.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments to troubleshoot technical issues regarding media assets, performing technical edit adjustments when needed.
  • Monitor real-time audience analytics and insights to optimize content performance, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and relevance for National Geographic’s audience.
  • Send string outs for QC and approval to producers/post scheduling promo team.
  • Make editorial decisions within provided guidelines.
  • Perform quality control evaluations and conversions on outbound media assets to ensure content meets the media destination’s technical specifications.
  • Produce and edit content for national and social media release, ensuring they meet the organization’s standards for quality and impact
  • Review and edit field-submitted video footage in a timely, professional manner
  • Occasionally act as the primary camera on remote assignments
  • Lead multimedia presentations for executive leadership and coordinate the use of electronic and physical graphic tools for communications and development teams
  • Optimize files for various sharing platforms and social media
  • Coordinate with the Field Director for production preparation across the country, including camera shipping/receiving, battery charging, and equipment readiness
  • Assist and train videographers/journalists in camera and equipment operation
  • Partner directly with senior leaders to discuss strategy, pitch creative ideas, and review feedback.
  • Organize and facilitate brainstorming sessions.
  • Hire, manage, and direct external vendors.
  • Develop original concepts and creative decks, then pitch ideas to senior leaders and partners.
  • Serve as senior producer on shoots, coordinating crews and interviewing and directing on-camera talent.
  • Produce and edit high-priority brand content, including the Upfront Open, executive sizzles, and image promos.
  • Monitor team performance, align work with department goals, and coach team members to succeed.
  • Drive individual and business success by approaching complex challenges with creativity, agility, and an open mind.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback while respecting diverse working styles and perspectives.
  • Support professional growth by encouraging career goals and leveraging individual strengths.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience with short-form nonlinear editing across various platforms, including proficiency in Adobe CC (Premiere, After Effects, and Media Encoder), Dolby 5.1 audio, and producing high-priority brand content from concept development through final delivery.
  • Experience developing innovative solutions and creative concepts for high-profile campaigns is required.
  • Exceptional short-form storyteller with deep expertise in the medium and current knowledge of best practices and emerging editing-platform capabilities.
  • Agency experience is preferred.
  • Candidates must live within commuting distance of the Washington, D.C., office at 1145 17th Street NW and work onsite four days per week.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

The hiring range for this position in Washington D.C. is $139,200 to $186,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
