About the Role
At Wellington Management our appetite for technology is insatiable. We recognize that the world is full of fascinating questions that will impact the future of companies, economies, financial markets, and entire industries. We want you to help us find answers to these questions by building and evolving our innovative, industry-leading technology platform.
We are seeking qualified candidates to join our evolving and expanding technology team. Together, you will not only dream up solutions to today’s investment challenges, but you will build them to see real-life results. Technology needs are advancing, and this level of complexity requires a highly sophisticated, well-managed technology platform that is built by people like you. This is your chance to build something incredible. We build seamless, cohesive tools used by investors to conduct research and build portfolios. We want you to think big, to solve challenges, and have a positive impact on our clients.
JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a candidate for a Senior Software Engineer position to join a strong, collaborative team and apply technical skills to enable investment processes to become more effective. As a member of the Investor Modeling team, you will set the technical direction and lead the design and evolution of our Python-based modeling services and dashboard applications across the full stack - front-end, services, and data layer.
You will help drive the integration of AI-assisted development practices and emerging technologies into investor-facing workflows and tooling. Beyond delivering features, you will help shape architecture, standardize libraries and frameworks, and raise the technical bar for other engineers working in the Python/dashboard space. You will tackle compelling challenges alongside exceptional technology and investment professionals, solving problems through cross-platform and data-driven work.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on full-stack delivery with enough experience to make architectural and technology choices for the team, operating with minimal oversight while mentoring those around them.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support investment modeling applications across the full stack (services, web, infrastructure, back-end), prototyping new components and optimizing existing systems for performance and maintainability
- Set technical direction for the team's Python and dashboard stack, including evaluating, standardizing, and recommending libraries, frameworks, and tooling
- Lead design reviews and provide architectural guidance to other engineers on the team
- Integrate AI-driven capabilities into investment applications to improve workflows and decision-making
- Partner with business analysts, QA engineers, and investment professionals across the requirements, testing, and user acceptance lifecycle
- Manage and communicate delivery timelines, providing status updates and proactively escalating risks
- Author and maintain technical design and support documentation
- Support production systems through data quality checks, alerting, and on-call participation
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of experience designing and developing durable and impactful software solutions
- Comfortable with SDLC tooling — issue tracking (JIRA), source control (Git), CI/CD (Jenkins / GitHub Actions), and cloud platforms (AWS); demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) in daily workflows, with hands-on GenAI development experience a strong plus
- Proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience in data-oriented libraries such as pandas and NumPy, SQLAlchemy (or a similar ORM), and a plotting/visualization library (e.g., Bokeh); comfortable ramping up on an internal Python dashboard framework and internal data-access libraries as part of onboarding
- Experience providing technical leadership - e.g., leading architecture or design discussions, evaluating/standardizing libraries and frameworks, or mentoring engineers
- Experience building and maintaining production front-end applications using React, HTML, CSS, including consuming GraphQL and/or REST APIs
- Experience writing SQL and working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle); experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DocDB)
- Experience working in a DevOps environment
- Experience with Agile methodologies and modern software development and testing practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences and strong follow-through
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and deliver in a fast-paced, business-critical environment
- Prior experience in the financial services or asset management industry
- BS or BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
