The Role:
Joining Moderna means advancing mRNA science to transform medicine. Work with exceptional global teams on a broad pipeline and build a career that makes a real difference for patients.
Moderna is strengthening its international business services hub in Warsaw, supporting our growing global operations. We welcome professionals ready to help advance our mission and shape the future of mRNA medicines.
This is an opportunity to shape the developer platform that powers the next generation of Moderna’s software engineering ecosystem. As a Senior Software Engineer within Developer Platform Engineering, you will design and build secure, scalable platform capabilities that enable engineering teams to develop, deploy, and operate software efficiently while meeting the highest standards for security and governance. Working across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, automation, developer experience, and AI-assisted development, you will help create reusable paved-road solutions that accelerate innovation across Moderna's rapidly expanding technology landscape.
Here's What You'll Do:
Design, build, and evolve secure developer platform capabilities using Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, GitHub Actions, Pulumi, Docker, AWS, and internal and third-party APIs.
Build and mature governed cloud development workspace capabilities, including secure workspace patterns using platforms such as Coder, devcontainers, approved base images, identity controls, secrets management, and controlled network access.
Create reusable templates, documentation, reference implementations, and standardized paved-road patterns that enable application teams to rapidly adopt secure, compliant development environments.
Partner directly with software engineers and application teams to standardize development environments, streamline onboarding, and increase adoption of reusable platform capabilities.
Continuously improve the developer experience by reducing environment setup time, eliminating repetitive manual work, standardizing engineering workflows, and making secure-by-default development practices easy to consume.
Build operational excellence into owned platform services through monitoring, alerting, dashboards, runbooks, automation, and proactive support capabilities.
Establish and continuously improve operational practices for developer platforms, including service ownership, platform lifecycle management, incident response, support models, and ongoing reliability improvements.
Collaborate closely with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Enterprise Architecture, and application engineering teams to translate security and technical requirements into practical, automated platform controls that minimize developer friction.
Identify recurring developer pain points and transform them into reusable frameworks, platform tooling, engineering templates, and scalable paved-road solutions.
Support governed AI-assisted software development by integrating approved Generative AI tools into secure development environments, reusable templates, documentation, and standardized engineering workflows.
Contribute across the broader Builder Tools & Platforms portfolio, supporting initiatives spanning developer tooling, secure software delivery, internal engineering frameworks, platform automation, and enterprise engineering standards.
Work across the full lifecycle of platform engineering—from architecture and design through implementation, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, production operations, developer enablement, and secure software delivery.
Help transform emerging engineering needs into reliable, reusable, governed platform capabilities that enable Moderna's Builders to innovate safely and at scale.
As an individual contributor, you will play a highly visible role partnering directly with engineering teams to influence how software is built across Moderna. Your work will combine deep technical expertise with hands-on platform engineering, enabling developers to focus on delivering impactful solutions while benefiting from secure, scalable, and thoughtfully designed engineering platforms.
The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:
We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.
We digitize everywhere possible using the power of code to maximize our impact on patients.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
7+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, developer tooling, infrastructure automation, or a related role.
Very strong software engineering experience implementing and maintaining developer platforms, internal tools, infrastructure automation, CI/CD systems, secure development environments, or secure software delivery platforms.
Very strong programming skills in Python or TypeScript/JavaScript.
Significant experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, CI/CD workflows, and modern software delivery practices.
Significant experience with AWS or another cloud provider for deploying and managing applications or developer platform services.
Experience with Docker, devcontainers, containerized applications, or standardized development environments.
Strong understanding of secure software development practices, software supply chain, dependency management, artifact management, secrets handling, and policy enforcement.
Proven ability to design and implement systems that balance security, standardization, usability, reliability, and developer productivity.
Proven experience leading technical initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders.
Expert troubleshooting skills across application code, build pipelines, cloud infrastructure, networking, identity, developer tooling, and third-party platforms.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing team priorities and contribute across a range of platform engineering responsibilities, including areas outside immediate prior experience.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Pulumi, CDK, Terraform, or similar.
Experience building or operating internal developer platforms, remote development workspaces, devcontainer standards, scaffolding systems, CLIs, templates, or paved-road engineering standards.
Experience with Coder, GitHub Codespaces, Dev Containers, cloud development environments, or similar developer workspace technologies.
Experience building reusable GitHub Actions workflows, platform automation, developer onboarding flows, or internal engineering enablement tooling.
Experience with Kubernetes, container security, base image lifecycle management, secrets management, network isolation, or endpoint/development environment controls.
Experience with artifact repositories such as JFrog Artifactory, Nexus, GitHub Packages, or similar.
Experience with application security platforms, software supply chain controls, vulnerability management workflows, or secure CI/CD guardrails.
Experience enabling AI-assisted development through approved tools, governed workspace patterns, internal developer context, or safe automation workflows.
