WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULE: This is a casual position with shifts assigned based on operational needs. Scheduled hours will generally occur during regular business hours, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday. The number of hours and frequency of shifts may vary depending on program requirements and availability.

SALARY RANGE: $20/hour

PROGRAM SUMMARY
The Step-Up Tutoring program helps elementary school children maintain and strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills. Through small group or one-on-one tutoring, students work on basic skills in a casual environment. A second priority of Step-Up is to offer meaningful work experience in the education field to students considering teaching as a career.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Step-Up Tutor works with school-aged children/youth whose parents have registered them in the Step-Up program. The tutor is responsible for planning and executing lessons which work towards achieving the student's goals.
Responsibilities
1. Activity Facilitation:
Create lesson plans based on the student’s goals, the evaluation of previous work and incorporating special education methods and practices.
Meet with assigned students and spend a scheduled amount of time working on the subjects designated in the learning plan.
2. Reporting:
Actively participate in performance and program evaluations.
Document the progress of the student's lessons and achievements and prepare progress reports and a final report for the parents at the end of the student's sessions.
Complete all paperwork requirements regarding employment, wages, etc. as requested.
Contact the supervisor when they are going to be absent.
3. Other Related Duties:
Participate in the “in service training.”
Participate in staff meetings, meetings with teachers and/or parents.
Make sure the work location is kept tidy and clean.
Ensure that all program resources are sorted and returned to correct locations.
Set up and take down the tutoring location.
Perform other related duties, as required.
Skills and Abilities
Self directed and works well independently and as part of a team.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Motivated, well organized and detail-orientated with the ability to prioritize.
Intermediate Level 2 technical skills required.
Demonstrated ability to interact positively with SCSA board, staff, clients and the public in person and over the telephone.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality and sign a pledge of confidentiality.
Undergo a Criminal Record Check
Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
