Description

If you're passionate about leadership, retail excellence, community engagement, and storytelling, this role offers a unique opportunity to manage a thriving retail operation while stewarding a museum that celebrates a rich manufacturing heritage. You'll lead events, develop talent, and help visitors connect with products that have stood the test of time.

The Store and Museum Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and financial success of the retail store and museum experience. This role directs all aspects of business operations, including sales growth, inventory control, staffing, and customer experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable (LMA) by providing clear direction and accountability for store and museum associates.
  • Own full responsibility for store performance, including sales results, inventory, and staffing.
  • Manage the store budget; hit targets for revenue, margin, and shrink.
  • Plan in-store events such as product demonstrations, tool clinics, anniversary celebrations, and group and school visits.
  • Manage inventory accuracy, replenishment, receiving, and loss prevention.
  • Oversee day-to-day museum operations: exhibit upkeep, care and security of artifacts and area.
  • Lead daily operations at location including driving daily sales, essential management functions, training and management of staff as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, accessible space for shoppers and museum visitors alike.
  • Coach and develop staff on product knowledge, selling skills, and the company's heritage, so every team member can sell a tool and tell its story.
  • Analyze performance, identify trends, and lead operational improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience in hardware, tools, home improvement, or outdoor retail; hands-on familiarity with hand tools is a strong plus.
  • Experience in a museum, visitor center, heritage site, or other experiential retail setting is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of retail KPIs, inventory control, and visual merchandising.
  • Comfortable using POS, inventory, and scheduling systems.
  • Clear, confident communicator with customers, staff, and management.
  • Availability to work weekends and events as the business requires.
  • A genuine interest in manufacturing history, craftsmanship, and the trades.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds.
