Summer Research Intern 2027 - Integrated Circuit Design for Quantum Computing

IBM Research is hiring Summer Interns to contribute to the development of advanced integrated circuits advanced for quantum computing applications. Key areas of relevant expertise span integrated circuit design for high-performance digital, mixed-signal, and/or RF in advanced technology node. We focus on circuit design targeting the development of differentiated solutions leveraging CMOS-based electronics for quantum computing applications. Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience in CMOS integrated circuit design, including schematic design, physical design (layout), verification, and measurement. Interns may be involved in multiple aspects of design projects, from concept development and IC architecture exploration and definition to system integration, bring-up, and testing. Candidates with specializations in digital, mixed-signal, or RF design will be considered, and preference may be given to those with multidisciplinary skills. In addition, a background in communication theory, quantum computing, or physics would be advantageous. Circuit Design: A strong foundation and experience in the design and layout of integrated circuits, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: RF, mixed-signal, or digital design. (2 years). CMOS implementation: Demonstrated expertise through successful design release (tape out) of integrated circuits in deep submicron CMOS technology (2 years). EDA: A thorough knowledge of the Cadence IC design framework (2 years). Programming Skills: Candidates with strong programming skills in commonly used languages (2 years). Communication and collaboration skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are highly valued to enable effective collaboration within the team. A track record of successful participation in multi-disciplinary research and development projects is a plus. Research skills: Proven record of research accomplishment (e.g. publications).
