Summary

This position is located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The Supervisory Nurse provides clinical, technical, and administrative leadership for specialty clinics. Join our healthcare team to lead nursing services, support staff development, and promote safe, high-quality patient care across a diverse population. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Duties

Directs and oversees nursing operations, including staff scheduling, workload distribution, patient flow, equipment and supply needs, and coordination of clinical services to ensure safe and effective delivery of patient care. Performs full supervisory and personnel management responsibilities, including assigning and evaluating work, establishing performance expectations, counseling employees, addressing performance and conduct issues, identifying training needs, approving leave, and participating in recruitment and selection activities. Plans, implements, and evaluates quality and performance improvement activities to ensure nursing services comply with established standards of care, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements. Provides clinical and technical leadership to nursing staff by evaluating nursing practices and staff competencies, coordinating orientation and continuing education, developing and revising nursing policies and procedures, and providing guidance on complex patient care and clinical issues. Coordinates Specialty Clinics, programs, and resources with nursing leadership, multidisciplinary healthcare teams, other departments, and external partners. Participates in budgeting, contract oversight, acquisition-related activities, and operational planning to support the continuity, quality, and effectiveness of nursing services. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements, applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized Experience GS-12: Providing professional nursing services involving patient assessments and therapeutic care, patient education, medications, medical equipment, diagnostic procedures and testing, and patient counseling; performing management, administrative, and supervisory functions for nursing services in a medical clinic, including supervising nursing staff, assigning and prioritizing work, and coordinating services based on patient needs and outcomes; ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, professional nursing standards, administrative policies and procedures, laws, regulations, and organizational directives; and communicating effectively with individuals and groups from varied educational, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
