Summary
This position is located in the Reception and Processing (RAP) Unit, in the Office of Community Supervision and Intervention Services (OCSIS), at the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA). The Agency works closely with the criminal justice system and community partners to provide comprehensive services that support the fair administration of justice, enhance public safety, prevent crime, and reduce recidivism.
Duties
Oversee offender intake and processing activities, including reviewing court, parole, and supervised release documents, and ensuring accurate data entry into criminal justice systems such as SMART, WALES, NCIC, CIS, JUSTIS, and SENTRY. Conduct research and analyze offender background information to verify identity, reconcile criminal history records, and support development of supervision plans. Prepare investigative summaries and initial supervision documentation used by Community Supervision Officers in case planning. Coordinate offender processing requirements, including DNA sampling, orientation scheduling, referrals, and assignment to specialized supervision teams. Provide technical guidance and information to Community Supervision Officers and criminal justice partners regarding offender history, case discrepancies, and available resources. Assist in the development and interpretation of policies and procedures governing RAP Unit operations. Supervise a team of GS-7 to GS-11 specialists, including assigning work, evaluating performance, resolving complaints, administering minor disciplinary actions, approving leave, and mentoring staff. Promote and support Equal Employment Opportunity principles and ensure fair, equitable work practices within the unit.
Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. This experience must demonstrate the ability to review and monitor offender compliance with court, parole, or supervision requirements; analyze and reconcile criminal history information through systems such as WALES, NCIC, CIS, JUSTIS, SENTRY, and SMART; prepare investigative or supervision documentation supporting case planning; coordinate intake-related actions such as referrals, DNA collection requirements, and orientation activities; provide technical assistance to Community Supervision Officers regarding offender information or case discrepancies; and participate in the development or implementation of operational policies and procedures. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-11 or higher grade in Federal Service. Your most recent SF-50, "Notification of Personnel Action," showing your competitive service status and the highest grade or promotion potential held must be submitted to verify time-in-grade eligibility. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
