Our mission is to deliver reliable, real-time, secure communication that empowers dispatchers in high-stakes environments where zero downtime is mandatory and every second counts.
Job Description
We are looking for a passionate Engineering Manager to lead and inspire our Software Test Team.
The quality bar in the ASTRO Consoles team is unusually high: when our software fails, someone calling for help doesn't get through. That is the standard we all uphold.
You will be responsible for quality vision for how our team meets this standard and drive improvements in our quality processes to reduce test time while increasing product quality. The latter part is where this role gets interesting. We are rebuilding how we test by incorporating AI and automation through every stage of the SDLC, from test design and environment provisioning to failure triage. We want a leader who is genuinely excited to drive that transformation.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be expected to read test plans critically, get into the automation and the lab, and be fluent enough in the product to know when a release is actually ready.
What you'll own
Own the quality bar. Set system test strategy across manual verification, system test automation, and the labs the team depends on, define what coverage means for a zero-failure product, and hold that line under schedule pressure.
Lead AI adoption in testing . Drive daily AI usage on real problems, starting with your own work. Decide what to establish as standard practice, and what to bin.
Build and grow the team. Coach test engineers, set clear expectations, and give direct feedback to establish a high bar without burning people out..
Make quality legible to leadership. Report progress, risk, and issues to executives within Motorola product, engineering, and go-to-market functions.
Go deep on the domain. Public safety voice is specialised, and credibility is what makes the rest of the role work. You'll build real depth in the product, the standards, and how customers actually operate.
Improve how engineering works. Partner with development, product, and DevOps to drive better practice across the lifecycle.
Basic Requirements
BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Automation, Telecommunications, or a related technical engineering discipline
Experience leading a software test, QA, or system verification team - or technical/test lead experience plus a clear appetite to step into people leadership
Solid grounding in the software development lifecycle, with real depth in testing: test strategy, system-level verification, and test automation
Practical, daily proficiency with AI development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot, Gemini) applied to engineering problems.
Ability to identify roadblocks and drive them promptly to resolution
Excellent communication skills, and the ability to explain technical risk clearly to senior stakeholders
English at B2/C1 or above
Familiarity with Agile and Scrum practices
Would be a plus
Experience testing mission-critical, high-availability, or safety-relevant systems
Familiarity with land mobile radio, P25/ASTRO, VoIP, or real-time audio
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks (Python, Java, or similar)
Experience managing physical test labs or hardware-in-the-loop environments
Experience applying AI to test generation, log analysis, or failure triage
In return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with coaching & development every step of the way. Also, to reward your hard work you’ll get:
Great team atmosphere
Opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, learn fast and a lot :)
Competitive salary package
