Job Summary:

As a Systems Developer in the Pension Product and Technology Group’s Pension Core Team, you will support and improve the quality engineering capabilities used to deliver HOOPP’s frontline pension platform. You will collaborate across business and technology teams to design maintainable automated test solutions, strengthen release confidence, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to reliable outcomes for members and employers.

What you will do:

Design, build, maintain, and enhance automated test frameworks and test suites using Playwright, C#, Node.js, and CI/CD pipelines, applying data-driven testing, Behavior Driven Development, and maintainable design patterns.

Develop and maintain automated functional, integration, end-to-end, smoke, and regression tests based on business requirements, acceptance criteria, and Gherkin scenarios.

Analyze requirements and risks to determine appropriate test coverage, automation feasibility, and reusable test design.

Understand and troubleshoot application components, test environments, integrations, infrastructure dependencies, and deployment pipelines.

Maintain version control, configuration management, and traceability for automated test assets across applicable environments.

Create and maintain reliable test data, environment configurations, and supporting utilities required for repeatable test execution.

Use approved AI-enabled development and testing tools to support creation, refactoring, and maintenance of test automation, test data, and documentation. Review and validate outputs against Pension Core quality, security, and audit requirements.

Identify and implement practical improvements to automation, testing processes, tooling, reporting, and team documentation.

Participate in pull requests, peer reviews, framework design decisions, and coding-standard improvements.

Collaborate with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, and testing partners to align requirements, test coverage, defect resolution, and release readiness.

Use Azure DevOps as the system of record for test cases, defects, execution results, reporting, and requirements-to-test traceability, where applicable.

Use SQL to identify affected populations, validate outcomes, create reliable test data, and support troubleshooting, production fixes, and ETL-related needs.

Support defect triage, root-cause analysis, release validation, and production issue investigation when required.

Participate in the Team’s activities, including standups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

What you bring:

5+ years of experience in software development, test automation, quality engineering, or a related technical discipline, with demonstrated ownership of maintainable automated test solutions.

University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Strong experience with Playwright and an object-oriented programming language such as C# or Java. Familiarity with Selenium and unit test frameworks such as xUnit or MSTest is an asset.

Experience with Node.js is preferred. Experience with TypeScript, or the ability to learn it, is an asset as the automation framework evolves.

Strong SQL skills, including data analysis, troubleshooting, outcome validation, and creation of reliable test data.

Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git-based source control, CI/CD pipelines, Visual Studio or VS Code, Azure, and .NET is preferred.

Strong understanding of quality engineering, test design, risk-based testing, automation design patterns, and software development lifecycle practices.

PowerShell scripting experience is an asset.

Experience with SpecFlow or another BDD framework is an asset.

Experience or demonstrated interest in using approved AI-enabled tools to support development, test automation, analysis, or documentation efficiency.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills, with consistent attention to accuracy and detail.

Commitment to continuous learning and to developing knowledge of Pension Core products, business processes, environments, and release practices.

Highly organized, able to prioritize competing work, manage dependencies, and adapt to changing delivery needs.

Demonstrated ownership, sound judgment, collaboration, and willingness to share knowledge and support team sustainability.

Experience with Azure or comparable cloud-based delivery environments is an asset.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
