Description

Augeo is seeking a Tax Manager to own day-to-day tax compliance across our multi-entity organization. The role is hands-on, covering both preparation and oversight: you will prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns through CCH SureTax, reconcile tax accounts, manage the company-wide tax and entity compliance calendar, and serve as the primary internal liaison with our outside CPA firm for income and franchise tax matters.

This is a newly created role with full ownership of Augeo’s tax compliance processes. You’ll centralize sales and use tax work that’s currently spread across the organization, build the compliance calendar, and design the processes you’ll run day to day. The scope is broad, spanning indirect and income tax, entity management, registered agents, international compliance, and R&D credit support, giving you exposure well beyond a typical sales tax role.

The ideal candidate pairs strong technical tax knowledge with operational discipline. You take ownership of your work, anticipate deadlines before they become urgent, and use technology to make processes faster and more accurate. You will work independently, bring solutions rather than questions, and help build scalable processes as the company continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Use Tax Compliance:

  • Upload transaction data and review multi-state, multi-entity sales and use tax returns in Wolters Kluwer CCH SureTax, and coordinate filing and payment with the SureTax managed service team.
  • Own the filing calendar for all registered jurisdictions and entities, ensuring every return and payment is filed on time.
  • Reconcile sales and use tax liability accounts monthly and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Analyze and reconcile tax data pulled from multiple billing platforms and legal entities to confirm completeness and accuracy.
  • Manage customer and supplier exemption certificates, including collection, validation, renewal, and record retention.
  • Respond to sales and use tax audit information requests.

Income & Franchise Tax Support:

  • Serve as the primary internal liaison with the outside CPA firm for federal and state income and franchise tax matters.
  • Gather and deliver supporting documentation for quarterly estimated payments, including workpapers and general ledger data.
  • Prepare and review apportionment schedules (sales, payroll, and property factors) for multi-state income tax filings.
  • Coordinate the annual information package required for income and franchise tax return preparation.
  • Reconcile income tax liability and related accounts monthly.

Payroll Tax Registrations:

  • Complete and maintain state payroll tax registrations (withholding and unemployment) as employees are hired in new states.
  • Coordinate with HR and payroll to identify new registration needs and keep account information current.

Entity Compliance, Registered Agents & Annual Reports:

  • Complete and renew entity registrations and qualifications on an annual basis.
  • File all domestic and foreign entity annual reports on time; maintain a centralized due-date and fee log.
  • Manage registered agent relationships across all states and foreign jurisdictions where the company does business.
  • Review registered agent invoices, process them for payment, and periodically evaluate vendor agreements.
  • Coordinate with Legal and outside counsel on entity registrations, qualifications, and withdrawals, including those tied to acquisitions.
  • Keep international entities compliant with foreign registrations, statutory filings, and reporting obligations.

Notices, Audits & Special Projects:

  • Manage state sales and use tax notices from receipt through resolution, including research, response, and any required corrections or payments.
  • Support internal and external audits by organizing records and responding to information requests.• Lead or assist with nexus analyses, voluntary disclosure agreements, and tax software enhancements
  • Oversee R&D tracking and reporting, coordinating time-tracking data to support R&D tax credit calculations and documentation
  • Monitor state and local tax law changes affecting filing obligations, nexus positions, or tax rates.• Document and maintain standard operating procedures and internal controls for all tax compliance processes.
  • Establish a centralized sales and use tax function by consolidating existing processes, updating state account information, ensuring tax correspondence is directed to the right contacts, and identifying process improvements.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of tax experience, with significant focus on multi-state sales and use tax compliance.
  • Working knowledge of state income and franchise tax, apportionment, and nexus principles.
  • Experience with sales tax compliance software (CCH SureTax, Avalara, Vertex, or similar).
  • Experience reconciling tax liability accounts and working with general ledger data.• Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, large-dataset reconciliation).
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of recurring deadlines across multiple entities and jurisdictions.

Preferred:

  • CPA, CMI, or progress toward either.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or another ERP.
  • Experience in a multi-entity, high-growth environment, including bringing new entities and jurisdictions into the compliance calendar.
  • Exposure to R&D tax credit (IRC Section 41) documentation and time-tracking data.
  • Experience with entity management, registered agents, or international statutory compliance.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Power Query, AI tools (such as Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Grok), or other automation tools used to streamline tax processes.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Self-starter: takes ownership of the full compliance cycle and works independently with minimal oversight, backed by a collaborative finance team when support is needed.
  • Operationally efficient: builds repeatable, well-documented processes and continuously looks for ways to improve them.
  • Tech-forward: comfortable learning new systems and applying technology to reduce manual work.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate, with strong judgment about when to escalate.
  • Clear communicator who can work effectively with the outside CPA firm, Legal, HR, Payroll, and state agencies.
