Putting people first, every day

BDO is a firm built on a foundation of positive relationships with our people and our clients. Each day, our professionals provide exceptional service, helping clients with advice and insight they can trust. In turn, we offer an award-winning environment that fosters a people-first culture with a high priority on your personal and professional growth.

Your Opportunity

As a Team Lead within BDO's Finance Effectiveness & Transformation practice, you will lead defined workstreams across complex Finance advisory engagements while helping build and scale a growing practice. You will work directly with CFOs and Finance leaders to modernize how Finance operates, partners with the business, and delivers enterprise value. You will also provide day-to-day direction to junior team members and serve as a trusted client delivery lead.

This unique role offers you the opportunity to:

  • Lead outcome-driven Finance transformation workstreams from mobilization through recommendation or implementation.
  • Work directly with CFOs and Finance leaders on high-impact priorities.
  • Guide consultants and junior team members through clear direction, quality review, coaching, and feedback.
  • Combine hands-on Finance advisory expertise with emerging engagement leadership responsibility.
  • Focus on measurable Finance outcomes, not just project activities or deliverables.
  • Help build and shape a growing Finance Effectiveness & Transformation practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own assigned Finance advisory and transformation workstreams from mobilization through recommendation or implementation, translating engagement objectives into structured workplans, analyses, workshops, deliverables, and actionable recommendations.
  • Set day-to-day priorities for consultants and other junior team members, delegate work effectively, review outputs for accuracy and consistency, and provide timely coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Manage assigned workstream scope, priorities, timelines, milestones, and budget-to-actual performance while providing the Manager with timely visibility into risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, and potential scope changes.
  • Make day-to-day delivery decisions within the assigned workstream, resolve issues within agreed parameters, and escalate matters that affect engagement scope, commercial terms, client commitments, or cross-workstream dependencies.
  • Serve as a key day-to-day client contact and lead stakeholder interviews, workshops, working sessions, status discussions, and presentations with Controllers, FP&A leaders, Finance teams, and senior stakeholders.
  • Develop executive-ready transformation roadmaps, target operating models, business cases, process designs, requirements, recommendations, and decision materials across people, process, technology, data, controls, and service delivery.
  • Apply rigorous quality review to analyses and deliverables, connect recommendations to measurable Finance outcomes, and ensure work products address the client challenge rather than only completing project activities.
  • Lead defined components of proposals and pursuits, including workplans, delivery approaches, resourcing inputs, credentials, and presentation materials, under the direction of the Manager.
  • Contribute to methodologies, tools, accelerators, case examples, reusable delivery assets, and market-facing offerings that help build and scale the practice.
  • Collaborate with Management Consulting, Digital, ERP/EPM, Risk Advisory, Tax, and other service lines to bring integrated and practical solutions to clients.

How do we define success for your role?

  • You demonstrate BDO's core values through all aspects of your work, including integrity, respect, and collaboration.
  • You independently lead defined workstreams from mobilization through recommendation or implementation, maintaining quality, pace, and alignment to client outcomes.
  • You translate complex analysis, stakeholder input, and business challenges into clear insights, practical recommendations, and executive-ready deliverables.
  • You build credibility with clients and internal stakeholders through sound judgement, transparent communication, and consistent delivery.
  • You anticipate and manage workstream risks, dependencies, budgets, and competing priorities, escalating early with clear options and implications.
  • You strengthen team performance by setting clear expectations, reviewing work rigorously, coaching junior colleagues, and integrating contributions into coherent client outputs.
  • You contribute tangible practice-building value through proposals, intellectual capital, reusable assets, and identification of relevant client needs.
  • You continue to deepen your expertise across finance transformation, operating model design, controllership, performance management, and technology enablement.

Your Experience and Education

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in finance transformation, CFO advisory, finance operations consulting, or a closely related Finance leadership environment.
  • An undergraduate degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong Finance-function experience across several of the following areas: Finance strategy and CFO effectiveness; Finance operating model and organization design; FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting; record-to-report, close, consolidation, and controllership effectiveness; shared services, GBS, outsourcing, and service-delivery design; Finance process design, optimization, and integration; ERP/EPM readiness, enablement, and reporting modernization; and Finance maturity assessment, benchmarking, analytics, data modelling, and business case development.
  • Demonstrated experience independently leading substantial workstreams and coordinating multiple contributors across complex, client-facing engagements.
  • Experience directing, coaching, and reviewing the work of junior team members, with accountability for quality and delivery consistency.
  • Experience leading stakeholder interviews, workshops, working sessions, and client presentations with Finance stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated project leadership capability across workplans, budget tracking, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, status reporting, and early escalation.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure complex problems, facilitate stakeholder discussions, synthesize analysis, and communicate recommendations through concise written and executive-level presentation materials.
  • Advanced working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to travel within Canada and occasionally internationally, based on client requirements.
  • A CPA designation or relevant master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX/D365, SAP, Oracle, BlackLine, Workiva, or comparable ERP, EPM, close, and reporting technologies is preferred.
  • Experience contributing to proposals, pursuits, reusable delivery assets, or market-facing Finance transformation offerings is preferred.

The expected range of compensation for this role is $90,000 - $135,000 annually.
