We're looking for a Tech Lead – Backend who loves solving complex engineering problems, building systems that scale, and writing code that millions of people can depend on.

Someone who can think deeply about architecture, get their hands dirty with code, challenge technical decisions, and help other engineers become exceptional at what they do.

You'll be at the heart of the engineering team powering Habuild's growing ecosystem.

From designing distributed systems to building resilient infrastructure and shipping high-performance backend services, you'll shape how our technology evolves as we grow.

You'll own critical technical decisions, solve challenging scalability problems, and help build systems that are reliable, efficient, and ready for the next million users.

But this isn't a role where you simply review pull requests and delegate engineering work.

We want someone who can go deep into the code, think several steps ahead, challenge assumptions, and lead by building.

You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, QA, and business teams to turn ambitious product ideas into scalable technical solutions.

And you'll have the ownership to make decisions, the freedom to experiment, and the opportunity to see your work impact millions of users.

WHAT YOU'LL MAKE HAPPEN

01. BUILD SYSTEMS THAT DON'T BREAK AT SCALE.

Design, develop, and evolve high-performance backend systems that can reliably support millions of users. Think deeply about scalability, latency, availability, and fault tolerance while building technology that performs when it matters most.

02. OWN THE ARCHITECTURE, NOT JUST THE IMPLEMENTATION.

Drive critical technical decisions across backend services and infrastructure. Create thoughtful High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) , evaluate trade-offs, and build architectures that balance speed, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

03. WRITE CODE THAT SETS THE STANDARD.

Stay hands-on with TypeScript and backend development. Write clean, maintainable, production-ready code while setting high standards for code quality, testing, reviews, and engineering practices.

04. MAKE DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS WORK.

Build and optimise microservices and distributed architectures. Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ , and other technologies to create efficient data flows, asynchronous workflows, and resilient backend services.

05. MAKE PERFORMANCE EVERYONE'S PROBLEM.

Identify bottlenecks, improve database performance, optimise caching strategies, and strengthen system observability. Use monitoring, tracing, and performance insights to make our systems faster, more reliable, and easier to debug.

06. TURN PRODUCT IDEAS INTO ENGINEERING REALITY.

Work closely with product managers, QA, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into thoughtful technical solutions. Break down complex problems, make practical build-versus-buy decisions, and drive execution from design to deployment.

07. MAKE THE ENGINEERS AROUND YOU BETTER.

Mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, review designs, and help the team solve challenging problems. Build a culture where engineers question assumptions, take ownership, and continuously raise the technical bar.

08. BUILD FOR WHAT'S NEXT.

Think beyond today's requirements. Improve technical documentation, architecture diagrams, development workflows, and infrastructure decisions so that our systems remain extensible as Habuild expands into new products, markets, and experiences.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone with 6+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience , including experience owning technical decisions, designing scalable systems, and guiding other engineers.

You should bring strong technical expertise in TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Redis, messaging queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, and AWS .

You'll need a deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, system design, and backend architecture , along with the ability to create clear HLDs and LLDs that translate complex requirements into practical engineering solutions.

We're particularly interested in engineers who understand what happens beyond writing code — database performance, caching, asynchronous processing, observability, system tracing, reliability, and production debugging.

You should be comfortable evaluating technical trade-offs, making build-versus-buy decisions, and designing systems that balance immediate business needs with long-term scalability.

Beyond technical expertise, we're looking for someone who can mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, communicate architectural decisions clearly, and collaborate effectively with product, QA, and business teams.

Most importantly, you should genuinely enjoy solving hard engineering problems and take pride in building systems that work reliably at scale.

High ownership, first-principles thinking, strong engineering fundamentals, and a bias for action.

BONUS POINTS IF:

You've built and scaled backend systems supporting millions of users or handling significant volumes of real-time traffic.

You've worked on high-growth B2C products where reliability, performance, and speed of execution are critical.

You've built something from scratch, contributed to open-source projects, or have personal applications running in production.

You've worked extensively with event-driven architectures, distributed tracing, cloud infrastructure, or complex data-processing systems.

You genuinely enjoy coding, experimenting with new technologies, and solving engineering problems outside your immediate responsibilities.
