About the Job
Join our Insurance Solutions & Enterprise Process Automations team and play a vital role in advancing our service capabilities within Insurance Group Administration, part of our broader Insurance Policy Administration organization.
As a Technical Business Analyst III, you’ll work closely with an engineering team, product management, fellow business analysts, and business partners to translate complex business needs into solutions that help our advisors serve clients and support their financial security.
This is a hands-on Business Analyst role with significant ownership of the delivery process. You’ll lead requirements discovery, independently write user stories and features, refine and groom the backlog, and partner with engineers throughout development to ensure they have the clarity they need to deliver successful solutions. You’ll also participate in solution planning for larger and more complex efforts.
The Insurance Group Administration domain is specialized and complex. While prior insurance or financial services experience can be valuable, we’re equally interested in candidates who bring strong technical Business Analyst fundamentals from complex environments and have the learning agility to develop deep domain knowledge.
What You’ll Do
- Own Requirements and Analysis: Partner with business and product stakeholders to understand problems, uncover client and business needs, and translate those needs into clear, fact-based requirements.
- Author User Stories and Features: Independently translate requirements into well-defined user stories, features, use cases, and acceptance criteria. Take direct ownership of story writing rather than simply supporting the process.
- Partner Closely with Engineering: Serve as a day-to-day partner to an engineering team, helping clarify requirements, answer questions, resolve ambiguity, and maintain alignment between business needs and technical delivery.
- Manage and Refine the Backlog: Play an active role in backlog refinement and grooming, helping ensure upcoming work is understood, appropriately defined, and ready for engineering.
- Support Solution Planning: Participate in solution planning for larger initiatives, bringing together business requirements, technical considerations, dependencies, and stakeholder needs.
- Assess Current and Future State: Independently evaluate and document current-state processes across multiple areas, identify gaps and opportunities, and help define future-state solutions.
- Support Testing and Delivery: Partner across the team to develop and review test plans, validate that solutions meet business requirements, and help coordinate business testing and sign-off.
- Build Strong Partnerships: Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, articulate requirements and proposed solutions, and build trusted relationships across product, engineering, and business teams.
- Drive Work Forward: Use sound judgment, analytical thinking, and project management skills to independently advance moderately complex work while collaborating on higher-complexity efforts.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years working in a Business Analyst role.
- Demonstrated experience independently writing user stories and translating business requirements into technical details.
- Experience partnering directly with engineering or technology teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Strong requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation skills.
- Experience with backlog refinement and Agile/Scrum development practices.
- Ability to analyze moderately complex business problems, evaluate options, and recommend solutions using sound judgment and critical thinking.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect technical and non-technical audiences and navigate differing perspectives.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a cross-functional product and engineering team.
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn a complex business and technical domain.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or another complex or regulated environment is a plus, but not required.
Skills You Have
- Analytical Thinking: Organizes and compares various aspects of a situation to comprehend and identify key or underlying complex issues through the use of quantitative data and analysis; leverages strong business acumen, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to think critically about situations from multiple perspectives and consistently seeks ways to improve processes.
- Attention to Detail: Focuses on specific details to spot and correct errors in advance of them being found and surpass quality expectations. Performs work with thorough proofreading for presentation, content, accuracy, and overall quality.
- Client Advocacy: Translates customer issues and pain points into requirements, represents client’s best interests. Analyzes customer feedback to understand client needs and communicates client sentiment to product teams and relevant stakeholders.
- Escalation Tracking: Uses business and technology acumen to effectively manage the escalation path of end-user complaints and issues throughout the organization. Closes communication loop with all interested parties.
- Product Lifecycle: Utilizes an understanding of the product lifecycle and a product's vision to manage a product throughout its complete lifecycle, from introduction to launch to post-launch assessment.
- Technical & Digital Acumen: Leverages knowledge and approaches of digital products and technologies to solve problems, complete tasks and accomplish goals. Demonstrates effective adaptability to new and emerging technologies.
- User Story: Translates requirements to technical details to build and validate use cases around a product and communicates them effectively.
