The IBM Technical Specialist Apprenticeship Program provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, professional training, and mentorship while working alongside experienced technology professionals supporting Federal clients. As a Technical Specialist Apprentice, you will learn how enterprise technology solutions are implemented, supported, and optimized in real-world environments. Through structured learning and on-the-job experience, you will develop the technical and professional skills needed to build a successful career in technology. What is an Apprenticeship? The IBM Apprenticeship Program is a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship that combines structured learning with hands-on work experience. The program lasts up to 12 months and is designed to help participants build technical and professional skills while earning a nationally recognized credential. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will follow a learning roadmap and gain practical experience working with teams that support technology solutions, client environments, cloud technologies, and business operations. What You'll Do As a Technical Specialist Apprentice, you will: Learn core technology concepts and best practices. Support teams delivering technology solutions for Federal clients. Assist with troubleshooting, problem-solving, and issue resolution. Gain exposure to cloud technologies, infrastructure, cybersecurity, automation, and emerging technologies. Learn how technology supports business operations and client missions. Participate in project work and team collaboration activities. Build professional skills including communication, teamwork, and customer service. Work with mentors and experienced professionals to develop technical and career skills. Helpful Experience You may have exposure to one or more of the following through school, military service, certifications, self-study, previous work experience, internships, or personal projects: Information technology or technical support Cloud computing concepts Cybersecurity fundamentals Networking fundamentals Systems administration Data analytics Automation tools and technologies Agile ways of working Customer service or client support Technical training, certifications, or coursework No specific technology background is required. Apprenticeship Experience As an apprentice, you will join a cohort of fellow learners and participate in onboarding, technical training, mentorship, and real-world project experiences. Throughout the program, you will: Follow a structured learning pathway. Receive guidance from experienced mentors and leaders. Earn digital credentials and skill-based achievements. Develop both technical and professional competencies. Gain practical experience supporting client teams and projects. Build a foundation for future technology career opportunities. You will be an active member of your team, contributing ideas, learning new skills, and helping deliver results for clients. Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Federal security clearance while in IBM Consulting-Federal. Demonstrated interest in pursuing a technology-related career. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to learn new technologies and concepts. Willingness to complete all apprenticeship program requirements. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Customer-focused mindset and professional attitude. Previous exposure to technology through education, certifications, self-study, military experience, internships, or employment. Interest in areas such as cloud, cybersecurity, technical support, infrastructure, automation, data, or emerging technologies.
