Description
SLICFiber is seeking a motivated and dependable Entry-Level Telecommunications Lineman to join our growing team in Upstate New York. This position plays a critical role in the construction, installation, and maintenance of SLICFiber’s Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, eager to learn, and interested in building a long-term career in the telecommunications and fiber optics industry.
This is an entry-level role with on-the-job training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the construction, installation, and maintenance of aerial and underground fiber optic facilities for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) networks
- Perform work on utility poles, strand, and related hardware under the direction of experienced linemen
- Assist with fiber placement, lashing, splicing preparation, and basic testing
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment used in fiber installation
- Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures at all times
- Read and interpret basic construction prints, maps, and work orders
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain throughout Upstate New York
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in clean and working condition
- Interact professionally with team members, supervisors, and customers when required
- Participate in training programs to develop fiber, safety, and lineman skills
- Some overtime, weekend, or Holiday work may be required, as well as “on Call”.
Requirements
- Entry-level position: prior telecommunications or construction experience is a plus but not required
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
- CDL preferred but not required
- Ability to work at heights and climb poles while wearing appropriate safety equipment
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety
