Connect Care. Remove Barriers. Improve Outcomes.

At Health Advocate, Patient Navigation goes beyond traditional call-center service. This is a high-volume, phone-based patient support role where you’ll help patients understand important healthcare next steps, overcome barriers to care, and feel supported throughout the process.

We are seeking Temporary Patient Navigators who can communicate with compassion, understand detailed processes, and quickly build trust with patients during sensitive healthcare conversations.

If you're looking for an opportunity to make an impact in healthcare while taking advantage of flexible scheduling options, we'd love to hear from you.

Temporary Opportunity | Flexible Shift Options

This is a temporary, remote position with flexible scheduling options available based on business needs.

We are looking for candidates who can provide dependable coverage during their agreed-upon working hours. Specific schedule availability and options will be discussed during the interview process.

Please note: Flexibility in available shift options does not mean on-demand scheduling. Once your work schedule is established, consistent attendance and availability during those agreed-upon hours are essential.

Compensation

$18.00 per hour

Before You Apply: Make Sure This Role Is Right for You

We believe in giving candidates a realistic picture of the job before they apply.

This position may be a great fit if you:

  • Are comfortable making a high volume of outbound calls
  • Can confidently discuss personal and sensitive healthcare information
  • Are comfortable initiating conversations with patients who may not be expecting your call
  • Can quickly establish rapport with patients who may be anxious, hesitant, confused, or overwhelmed
  • Can understand detailed instructions and translate them into clear, easy-to-understand information
  • Are comfortable discussing next steps related to procedures such as a colonoscopy
  • Enjoy solving problems and helping people overcome barriers to healthcare
  • Are comfortable using multiple computer systems while speaking with patients
  • Can maintain a private, distraction-free workspace appropriate for confidential patient conversations
  • Can reliably work your agreed-upon schedule

What the Work Looks Like

A significant part of your day will involve proactively contacting patients by phone and helping them navigate important healthcare next steps.

For example, you may speak with patients who have received a positive test result and need support understanding and navigating the next steps toward completing a colonoscopy.

These conversations can involve personal and sensitive health information. You'll need to make patients feel comfortable, listen carefully, explain processes clearly, and establish trust quickly.

Your goal isn't simply to make a call. It's to help a patient move forward.

Patient Outreach & Navigation

You will:

  • Conduct high-volume outbound patient outreach
  • Quickly establish rapport and encourage patients to engage in their care
  • Explain processes and next steps clearly and compassionately
  • Assist with appointment scheduling and care coordination
  • Help identify barriers that may prevent patients from accessing care
  • Support coordination of transportation, medical records, and available resources
  • Follow up with patients, providers, and partners as appropriate
  • Connect patients with the appropriate clinical resource when questions fall outside the Patient Navigator's scope

Organization & Follow-Through

Patient needs may not be resolved in a single conversation. You'll be expected to:

  • Track patient needs through resolution
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Manage multiple open cases and follow-up activities
  • Prioritize work based on established processes
  • Follow through on commitments and outstanding next steps
  • Escalate concerns or issues appropriately

Privacy & Compliance

Because you'll work with confidential patient information, attention to privacy and accuracy is critical.

You will:

  • Verify and update appropriate patient information
  • Document patient interactions accurately
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Follow HIPAA and applicable policies and requirements
  • Work from a private environment appropriate for confidential healthcare conversations

What We're Looking For

Required

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 2+ years of experience in customer service, healthcare navigation, patient support, or similar work
  • Strong verbal communication and active-listening skills
  • Ability to understand detailed processes and communicate them clearly
  • Comfort with frequent outbound telephone communication
  • Ability to work across multiple computer systems and document information accurately
  • Strong organization and follow-through
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive information
  • Dependable attendance during agreed-upon working hours

Preferred

  • Associate's degree in healthcare, social work, business administration, liberal arts, or a related field
  • Experience with healthcare access, patient navigation, care coordination, or community resources
  • Previous experience communicating with patients or members by phone
  • Medical Assistant, Community Health Worker, EMT, Social Worker, Patient Navigator, or another healthcare-related credential

Working Remotely

While this opportunity is remote, the work requires your full attention during scheduled working hours .

You should have an appropriate workspace that allows you to conduct confidential patient conversations professionally and without distractions.

Remote work provides flexibility in where you work, but you'll still be expected to be available, engaged, and productive throughout your established schedule.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?

You'll likely enjoy this work if you can balance empathy with productivity .

You're someone who can pick up the phone repeatedly throughout the day and still make the person on the other end feel like more than another call.

You can take complicated information and make it understandable. You can listen to someone's concerns without losing sight of the action that needs to happen next. And when an issue isn't resolved immediately, you stay organized and follow through.

Most importantly, you're comfortable having conversations that matter.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you're comfortable with high-volume outbound calling, sensitive healthcare conversations, the $18/hour rate, and consistently working an agreed-upon schedule , we encourage you to apply.

Help make healthcare easier to understand and navigate, one patient conversation at a time.
