Role Summary

Amperesand is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Test Engineering Technician to support prototype development, equipment integration, and high-voltage power electronics testing and validation activities.

This role combines electro-mechanical assembly, test execution, validation, and laboratory operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable building and troubleshooting complex electrical systems, setting up test equipment, collecting and presenting data, and adapting quickly as development priorities evolve. Safety, attention to detail, and collaboration are critical to success in this position.

Responsibilities

Assembly & Development

Build and wire electrical panels and control systems

Fabricate brackets, fixtures, wiring harnesses, and custom components using hand tools, power tools, soldering, crimping, and light machining techniques

Support installation, wiring, commissioning, and troubleshooting of manufacturing and pilot-line equipment, including automation platforms and fixtures

Collaborate with engineers on prototype iterations, test fixture development, and product improvements

Testing & Validation

Set up, configure, and maintain test equipment for electrical, mechanical, and power electronics validation

Execute development, qualification, and validation testing according to established protocols

Collect, analyze, document, and present test data and results

Develop and improve testing procedures, protocols, and laboratory practices based on engineering feedback and test results

Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and integrated system issues

Operate laboratory instruments including multimeters, oscilloscopes, DAQs, and other diagnostic equipment

Assist with process validation and product qualification activities

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, CAD models, and engineering documentation

Document assembly processes, testing procedures, findings, corrective actions, and design recommendations

Participate in design reviews and provide testability and manufacturability feedback to engineering teams

Maintain organized laboratory, inventory, and prototype storage areas

Support receiving, shipping, logistics, and inventory management activities

Safety & Compliance

Follow all company safety policies and procedures, especially when working around high-voltage systems

Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and maintain compliance with electrical safety requirements

Apply ESD controls and best practices when handling sensitive electronics

Assist in developing, maintaining, and enforcing laboratory and test safety procedures

Ensure compliance with applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and internal safety standards

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

4+ years of experience in engineering support, testing, validation, manufacturing, or electro-mechanical assembly environments

Experience assembling and troubleshooting electrical and electro-mechanical systems

Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings

Strong understanding of:

Ohm's Law

Basic circuit theory

Electrical measurements

Electrical safety practices

NEC fundamentals

Experience using:

Multimeters

Oscilloscopes and test equipment

Hand and power tools

Soldering equipment

Crimping tools

Knowledge of:

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

ESD best practices

Electrical panel assembly and wiring

Ability to collect, analyze, and communicate test results

Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced development environment

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a laboratory or industrial setting for extended periods

Bonus Qualifications

Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field

Experience with high-voltage or medium-voltage systems (5 kV to 36 kV)

Experience testing power electronics, converters, inverters, batteries, or energy systems

Familiarity with PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial controls

Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or 3DEXPERIENCE

Knowledge of Python, data analysis tools, or automated test systems

Experience supporting product validation, prototype development, or pilot-line activities

Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and Jira

Machine shop and fabrication experience

Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.

Reno Pay Range

$35 — $45 USD
