Job Purpose: Manage the execution, direction, and coordination of all transportation matters within the organization. Responsible for managing budgets, organizing schedules & routes, ensuring that vehicles are safe and meet legal DOT and other Federal, State and Local requirements. You will be responsible to deliver friendly and knowledgeable service and support to our fleet of Professional Drivers, staff and managers. You will monitor/maintain FMCSA performance, DOT roadside inspections and other various critical indicators.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage hiring & terminations of staff when necessary as it relates to the development of your support team
Policies and procedures for transportation operations to be revised, developed and/ or implemented.
Implement back haul policy and additional policies as necessary to comply with State, Federal, Local and DOT requirements
Manage personnel, activities and schedules, to oversee shipment coordination and routing. (Includes researching the promptest and cost-effective transport methods and securing contracts with customers or transportation providers based on such research)
Cover Class A routes as company needs
Remain current with various regulations including those related to freight classifications. Must be knowledgeable with all mandatory FMCSA, DOT Regulations & Guidelines, OSHA, Safety & Compliance insuring all criteria is met.
Accident Investigation & Reporting.
Manage and Supervise various analysis and reporting.
Manage and Supervise fleet safety performance. Keep fleet trucks maintained and in compliance with all DOT Standards, maintenance, repair, and replacement of transportation equipment or vehicles
Manage and Supervise Fleet registration, proper auditing of DOT hours of service duty logs, vehicle registration, driver licenses, medical card(s) and reporting.
Must be able to recognize and resolve any issues involved with the transport/shipping process, by ensuring customer issues are researched, addressed and corrected in a timely manner.
Allocate and manage staff resources according to changing needs
Analyzing logistical problems and produce novel solutions
Monitoring transportation costs. (i.e. insurance cost. hotel / gas cards, maintenance / repair, leased vehicles, etc
Negotiating and bargaining transportation prices with vendors.
Dealing with the effects of congestion.
Confronting climate change issues by implementing transport strategies and monitoring the organization’s carbon footprint.
Additional duties/responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge of applicable regulations: FMCSA, DOT, OSHA & Safety Compliance.
3+ year's experience working in Food Distribution
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Class A license preferred
Thorough knowledge and understanding of shipping logistics and time management skills, personal service and production and processing.
Education:
(Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration with 2 years’ experience (or) an Associate degree and 5 years experience (or) the equivalent combination of education and experience with at least 10 years in a progressive logistics position.
Working Conditions:
Ability to adapt to multi-temperature environment, Travel: occasionally required, though not a regular feature of the working day.
Working hours: Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business as working hours vary, with long hours and possibly shifts including weekends common.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Drug Screen & Background Checks: A ll offers of employment may be conditioned on receipt of a pre-employment drug screen & background check report that is acceptable to Baily International of Atlanta
