Travel Utility Locate Technician

We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented Travel Utility Locate Technician based out of the San Antonio, TX area. In this role, you will be responsible for locating and marking underground utility lines (such as gas, water, sewer, electric, and telecom) to prevent damages during construction, excavation, and maintenance projects.

This is a high-travel position where time away on assignment can extend 12+ weeks at a time , requiring flexibility, independence, and a commitment to working on the road across various project sites.

Key Responsibilities

• •Accurate Locating: Utilize electromagnetic locating equipment, and other specialized tools to detect and mark underground utilities.
• •Site Evaluation: Read and interpret civil blueprints, utility maps, as-builts, and project plans to identify conflict areas.
• •Documentation & Mapping: Accurately paint, flag, and document utility locations according to state "Call Before You Dig" (811) standards and company guidelines.
• •Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and client-specific safety mandates on every job site.
• •Travel Operations: Seamlessly mobilize to remote or regional project locations as assigned, committing to extended project rotations of 12+ weeks away.
• •Communication: Maintain clear, professional communication with project managers, contractors, crew leads, and utility operators in the field.

Qualifications & Requirements

• •Experience: Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in utility locating, construction, surveying, or a related field (preferred).
• •Travel Commitment: Ability and willingness to travel extensively, with assignments frequently lasting 12+ weeks continuously on the road.
• •Geographic Base: Must be based out of San Antonio, TX area when reporting for local coordination or returning between rotations.
• •Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating electronic utility locating equipment and interpreting utility prints or blueprints.
• •Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, walk extensive distances daily, and lift/carry equipment (up to 50 lbs). Safely stand, bend, and kneel while operating locating wands and marking paint.
• •Driver’s License: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to safely operate company vehicles.
• •Work Ethic: Strong independent work habits, high integrity, and exceptional time-management skills while working away from home.
