The Opportunity

The Department of Romance Studies at Cornell University is seeking an Undergraduate Coordinator to support the administration of its undergraduate programs in Romance languages and literature. This position plays an important role in coordinating the department’s complex teaching and curriculum programs and ensuring the effective delivery of undergraduate education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the assignment and scheduling of courses and instructional responsibilities across Romance languages and literature.
  • Support the administration and implementation of undergraduate curriculum and teaching programs.
  • Collaborate with the Chair, Associate Chair, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Administrative Manager to coordinate departmental teaching activities.
  • Serve as a key point of coordination among faculty and department leadership regarding curriculum, course scheduling, and instructional needs.
  • Organize and maintain information related to undergraduate courses, teaching assignments, and program administration.
  • Support day-to-day administrative processes related to the department’s undergraduate teaching program.

This is a part-time (30 hours/week) endowed position based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Work hours will be mutually agreed upon at the time of hire.

About the Department of Romance Studies

The Department of Romance Studies gives voice to the literatures and cultures of those parts of the world where French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish are or have been spoken. The undergraduate and graduate programs offer students a broad range of opportunities for language acquisition, as well as the chance to become sophisticated interpreters of cultures and deliver intellectual engagement across linguistic and textual boundaries.

What We Need

We are seeking a team member with strong communication skills who is effective at engaging with diverse stakeholders and highly organized. Additionally, you will have:

  • An Associate’s Degree and at least 2 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, specialized on-line grading and student services systems. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Attention to detail, ability to carefully proofread and review data for errors.
  • Experience working directly with people from various backgrounds.
  • The ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

  • Associate’s Degree with 4-6 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate program processes and regulation, experience working in higher education.
  • Under general supervision, resolve most problems and accomplish most tasks alone, keeping supervisor informed of progress.
