Description

Position Summary: The Upper School Bible Teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment that encourages next generation learning. This quality teacher regards spiritual maturity, academic success, and social growth as avenues of learning within the classroom. He/she will proactively communicate with parents and families to ensure partnership in student learning and collaborate among teachers, administrators, and parents.

This position is currently part-time, with the possibility of becoming full-time as early as next school year.

Responsibilities:

Primary:

Christ-Centered Student Development & Relationships – 30%

  • Interact with parents, students, staff, and visitors in a positive, friendly, and Christ-centered manner
  • Teach classroom routines and rules with a gospel-centered approach to develop students into Christ-like examples of scholarship, leadership, and service
  • Ensure quality support for individual students so all are successful
  • Be available to students for support
  • Maintain strong and healthy relationships with students
  • Disciple students to grow into disciple makers
  • Actively look for opportunities to serve others

Instructional Planning & Effective Teaching – 50%

  • Complete lesson plans referencing standards and measurable daily objectives
  • Generate creative lessons with student-friendly learning targets
  • Apply Biblical worldview integration in all lessons
  • Routinely use formative assessment to check student understanding before, during, and after lessons
  • Flexibly adjust lessons based on student understanding
  • Instruct using the gradual release model for quality instruction
  • Consistently engage students through interactive lessons
  • Transfer learning responsibility to students
  • Understand individual student learning needs
  • Encourage collaborative learning and provide meaningful feedback
  • Make learning relevant and engaging for students

Family Communication & Professional Collaboration – 15%

  • Initiate partnerships with parents and students to build strong relationships
  • Provide ongoing communication with parents to establish trust
  • Post grades and lesson plans in Schoology on a weekly basis
  • Attend and collaborate with teachers through PLCs, instructional time, devotions, and staff meetings
  • Conduct Fall and Spring parent-teacher conferences

Classroom Environment & Student Supervision – 5%

  • Monitor bus and carpool areas as assigned
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom through bulletin boards and displays of student work

Requirements

Education:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in middle school or high school education or a related degree.
  • ACSI certificate or ability to receive one in the first school year.

Experience:

Required Experience:

  • Previous experience teaching Middle or High School Bible.
  • Experience related to 21st century learning concepts, project-based learning, and integration of technology in the classroom.

Skills:

Communication - demonstrates interpersonal oral communication skills by speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Written communication skills are clearly written with the audience identified and the message defined in an understandable format.

Planning/organizing - prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.

Problem solving – identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.

Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.

Teamwork – can quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all; is seen as a team player due to cooperation and support; easily gains trust and encourages collaboration.

Technical Learning – ability to learn and comprehend new technical skills and knowledge.

Travel: This position requires some local travel.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a professional office environment and will routinely use standard office equipment such computers, photocopiers, and smartphones. The work environment also involves working in a Preschool-12 Private Christian School and Evangelical Church environment and all employees are expected to have a demonstrated and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Working Hours: Typically, employees are expected to work during normal hours and days of business, between Monday and Friday. Specific expectations for each position will be communicated by the supervisor of this position. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. This position works 25 hours per week and 9 months of the year.
