JOB SUMMARY
The Vice President, Business Development is responsible for leading Clinilabs’ business development team, strategy, revenue growth, client engagement, and commercial expansion across assigned markets and service lines. This role provides senior level leadership to the Business Development team, develops and executes account and territory strategies, strengthens relationships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, device, and research partners, and collaborates cross-functionally with Operations, Clinical, Finance, Proposals, Marketing, and Executive Leadership to secure new business and support long-term company growth. The position requires a strategic, client-focused, and results-oriented leader with deep knowledge of clinical research services, strong commercial acumen, and a proven track record of leading teams and achieving sales and revenue targets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Company’s Chief Commercial Officer to develop, lead, and execute the company’s business development strategy to achieve annual sales, bookings, revenue, and growth objectives.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development for members of the Business Development team.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, academic, and other clinical research clients.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior-level client decision makers, key opinion leaders, strategic partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Drive account planning, global territory management, pipeline development, forecasting, and sales activity reporting to ensure visibility into commercial performance and future growth.
- Collaborate with Operations, Clinical, Medical, Finance, Proposals, Contracts, Marketing, and Executive Leadership to align client needs with company capabilities and service offerings.
- Lead or support strategic proposal development, client presentations, bid defenses, contract negotiations, and other activities required to secure new awards.
- Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitor activity, therapeutic area opportunities, and industry developments to inform commercial planning and positioning.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, client meetings, networking events, and other external forums to strengthen brand visibility and generate new opportunities.
- Establish and track key performance indicators for business development performance, including lead generation, opportunity conversion, proposal volume, awards, backlog, and revenue contribution.
- Promote a collaborative, ethical, accountable, and client-centered culture consistent with company values, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Salary range between $220,000 - $240,000. Final compensation is based on skills, experience, location, and overall expertise.
TRAVELING
Travel is required as needed to support client meetings, bid defenses, industry conferences, internal leadership meetings, and company locations. Travel requirements may vary based on business needs.
Requirements
- The position requires a bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field; an advanced degree such as an MBA or graduate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of progressive business development, sales, commercial strategy, or account management experience in the clinical research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or healthcare services industry.
- Experience across the CNS therapeutic area is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading and scaling business development teams, achieving revenue targets, managing complex sales cycles, and developing strategic client relationships at senior levels.
- Strong understanding of clinical trial operations, outsourcing models, proposal development, contracting processes, sponsor expectations, and the competitive CRO landscape.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, presentation, negotiation, forecasting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with customer relationship management systems (i.e. Salesforce), Microsoft Office applications, pipeline reporting tools, and sales performance metrics.
- Proficiency in utilizing AI tools (i.e. CoPilot) to maximize the efficiencies of sales teams, drive performance, generate data analytics, and strategize.
