With a team of 105 physicians spanning urology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, breast surgery, general surgery, and head and neck surgery, SMS is committed to providing high-quality, accessible care. Our practice continues to expand services by offering advanced radiation therapies, in-house pharmacy and laboratory capabilities, care management, theranostics, cutting-edge diagnostic imaging, and clinical research. We are dedicated to recruiting top-tier physicians to help increase access to affordable, high-quality care throughout the state.
Job Description:
The Vice President, Radiation Oncology leads the SunState Medical Specialists (SMS) radiation oncology service line: approximately 25 radiation oncologists across 25 treatment centers in Florida. Reporting to the CEO, the VP is
accountable for site management, operational performance, service line enhancement, physician recruitment strategy, EMR utilization, and support radiation oncology best practices.
Above all, the VP earns the trust of SMS radiation oncologists through genuine, lasting relationships, and uses that trust to unite every center into one unified SMS radiation oncology practice. Center managers report through regional/area managers, who report to the VP. The VP partners with central SMS teams and is accountable for results without direct P&L ownership.
Responsibilities :
Physician Relationships & Trust
Build a personal, trusted relationship with every urologist: know them, visit their sites regularly, listen first,
follow through, and communicate openly and honestly.
Act as the physicians’ advocate and operational partner; resolve site, staffing, and support issues quickly,
and give physicians a real voice in decisions that affect their practice.
Create regular forums for physician input (e.g., physician meetings, site visits, one-on-ones) and close the
loop on feedback.
Build one SMS radiation oncology identity across all sites and legacy practices with shared goals, standards,
and a consistent communication cadence.
Standardize policies and operating practices with physician input, allowing local flexibility where it clearly
benefits patients.
Center Management & Operations
Lead regional/area managers and, through them, all center managers; set expectations, review
performance, and develop leaders.
Ensure strong staffing of the care team (therapists, dosimetry, physics, nursing), patient access, treatment
start times, and equipment uptime.
Financial & Operational Performance
Drive the operational levers behind revenue, expense, and productivity targets; partner with Finance on
monthly reviews and technology capital planning, and report results to the CEO.
Service Line Enhancement
Expand advanced capabilities and strengthen integrated care with medical oncology, urology and referral
partners; identify new center and market opportunities with the CEO.
Physician Recruitment & Retention • Lead radiation oncologist recruitment and succession planning with Talent Acquisition; own onboarding and ramp-up so new physicians succeed and stay. EMR & Revenue Cycle • EMR utilization: Drive standardized, optimal use of the Radiation Oncology Information Systems across all sites, partnering with central IT. • RCM best practice: Hold sites/providers accountable for front-end and charge capture performance and partner with RCM on collections, denials, and A/R metrics.
Required or Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field required; master’s preferred.
Minimum 10 years of radiation oncology experience, including 5+ years leading multi-site operations at the
director level or above.
Proven experience leading multiple layers of management across a large, dispersed footprint.
Working knowledge of RCM and EMR optimization.
Essential Competencies :
Exceptional relationship-building skills, with a record of earning physicians’ trust and influence.
Strategic thinking and disciplined operational execution; data-driven management.
Change management and team integration experience.
Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
Local travel required within South Florida markets; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
